November Releases: Did I Read It?

Did I Read It? is a monthly post that revisits the books featured in my Upcoming Releases post. I thought it would be fun to revisit those posts at the end of the month and see if I ended up reading the books or not and if I did see what I thought about it.

Head on over here to check out my November releases post.

I ended up DNFing this one and I am SO SO SO SAD about it. I adored the first book in this series, but I am a moody reader and I just was not feeling this one. I do hope to revisit it someday and try again.

Have not read this one yet, still really really really want to. That cover is stunning.

I love this series and this book was no exception. It was such a fun read and Lucky is an amazing character. Check out my review here.

I still have not started this series, but I just know I am going to love it. It is right up my alley.

Amalie Howard has never let me down and she didn't here with her Beauty and the Beast meets Taming of the Shrew historical romance. Check out my review here.

Book Review: The Beast Of Beswick by: Amalie Howard

Release Date: November 26, 2019
from Entangled Amara
Goodreads | Amazon
Source: I received a complementary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily provided a fair and honest review.
"The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare meets Taming of the Shrew in the start to a new Regency series from award-winning author Amalie Howard.

Lord Nathaniel Harte, the disagreeable Duke of Beswick, spends his days smashing porcelain, antagonizing his servants, and snarling at anyone who gets too close. With a ruined face like his, it's hard to like much about the world. Especially smart-mouthed harpies―with lips better suited to kissing than speaking―who brave his castle with indecent proposals.

But Lady Astrid Everleigh will stop at nothing to see her younger sister safe from a notorious scoundrel, even if it means offering herself up on a silver platter to the forbidding Beast of Beswick himself. And by offer, she means what no highborn lady of sound and sensible mind would ever dream of―a tender of marriage with her as his bride."

My Thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It’s a historical romance twist on Beauty And The Beast meets Taming Of The Shrew and it is so so good. This book delivers great characters and delivers wonderful romantic tension.

I have to start with Astrid because she was the star of the show. I absolutely adored her. She is so smart and quick witted and has absolutely no patience for the patriarchy and just same girl. And I loved how much she loved her sister and was willing to go to any length for her. And she has met her match with Thane. Give me a grumpy hero any day and Thane sure is a grumpy one. He has closed himself off but Astrid just busts her way into his life and will not leave. I loved these two and how they really were suited so well for one another. Thane needed someone who would put him in his place and Astrid needed someone who would respect her as an equal and that’s exactly what they find in one another. They had great chemistry and how I loved their banter. Also a quick shout out to Mabel who is such a troublemaker and scene stealer.

The Beast Of Beswick was just such a good read. The characters are so vibrant and flawed and real and I loved them so much. Amalie Howard never disappoints and she certainly didn’t disappoint here.

On My Shelf: Hearts & Other Body Parts by: Ira Bloom

On My Shelf is a feature I started here on the blog and I'm sure there are a ton of similar ones out there, but basically I just wanted to start spotlighting some of the MANY backlist titles I have accumulated on my shelf and kindle. The idea is to spotlight an older book I have on my massive TBR. I also thought it would be a fun way to discuss these books with my fellow bloggers, get some of your thoughts and figure out which ones I need to read ASAP and which ones can wait a bit more. And if you want to join in too, I would love to see what is on your shelf! Just leave me a link in the comments.

I don't even remember where I got this one, but it sounds like so much fun. It has witches and monsters and just sounds cute.

So tell me. Have you read it? Did you love it? Hate it? Was it meh?

Mini Review: One Night Of Sin (After Hours #1) by: Elle Kennedy

Release Date: August 4, 2014
from Entangled Brazen
Goodreads | Amazon

"When it comes to sex, good girl Skyler Thompson always plays it safe, choosing stable and sedate over wild and thrilling. She doesn’t do one-night-stands, but one look at sinfully sexy Gage Holt and she’s willing to reconsider. He makes her want to be bad for once in her life, and she’s prepared to take what she wants.

Danger follows former MMA fighter Gage Holt like a shadow. Despite his successes as part owner of Sin, an exclusive nightclub in Boston, Gage can’t risk getting involved with a woman, especially one as sweet as Skyler. Still, he can’t resist a taste—and it’s so damn good he has to see her again.

As addicted as he is to her, Gage knows there’s no future for him and Skyler—not with his past lurking in the dark corners of an MMA cage. But Skyler’s tougher than she looks, and she’s ready to fight for her man."

My Thoughts:

Elle Kennedy always delivers and One Night Of Sin was no exception. She just knows how to write a crazy steamy book that also delivers a ton of heart. This was just the book I needed right now. I had been reading a lot of fantasy and paranormal, so this was a nice quick and dirty pallet cleanser. I loved Skyler and the way she just went for what she wanted. And Gage, while I wished he wouldn’t be so dense at times, he was also so swoony and man does he have a mouth. I loved the chemistry between Skyler and Gage and how their intense first meeting turned into so much more. And I so loved the scene at the end, just so good. I also loved some of the secondary characters we got to meet and I cannot wait to get to know Reed and AJ better. All in all, this was a great romance – so sweet yet so dirty – and I’m so glad I gave it a read.

Book Review: Bone Crossed (Mercy Thompson #4) by: Patricia Briggs

Release Date: February 3, 2009
from Ace
Goodreads | Amazon

"By day, Mercy is a car mechanic in the sprawling Tri-Cities of Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shapeshifter with some unique talents, Mercy has often found herself having to maintain a tenuous harmony between the human and the not so human. This time she may get more than she bargained for.

Marsilia, the local Vampire Queen, has learned that Mercy crossed her by slaying a member of her clan—and she's out for blood. But since Mercy is protected from direct reprisal by the werewolf pack (and her close relationship with its sexy Alpha), it won't be Mercy's blood Marsilia is after.

It'll be her friends'."

My Thoughts:

This series is so addictive and I am fully immersed and I will not be coming up for air until I am caught up. I just love all of these characters so much. I love how much there is going on in this world and how many different paranormal creatures we get to encounter.

Mercy is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite heroines. She has been through quite a bit, but she is a fighter and she pushes through. She has grown so much since the first book and I’ve just come to love her more and more. She always fights for those she cares for and she doesn’t let anything hold her back. And guys… Adam has seriously stolen my heart. I’m so enamored with him. He is so alpha, but never in an overly controlling or domineering way. I mean there’s a whole conversation where he’s like I don’t tell Mercy what she can and can’t do and this is the kind of alphas we need. He complements Mercy and is there when she needs someone, but he knows she is strong and capable of standing on her own two feet. And together I just love them so friggin much. And I still have a special place in my heart for Sam. I love the role he has taken on in this series and I just find him so incredibly lovable.

The plot of this one kept me on edge. Just when I thought things were going in one direction, everything took a left turn and went another way. Poor Mercy is always finding herself in trouble. It’s a good thing she has a knack for finding a way out of it and is more than able to take care of herself.

All in all, Bone Crossed was yet another great addition to this world. I am really dreading the day I am caught up on all the books.

Mini Review: Lucky And The Drowned Debutante (The Carriage House Capers #5) by: Emmy Grace

Release Date: November 6, 2019
Goodreads | Amazon
Source: I received a complementary copy of this book from the author and voluntarily provided a fair and honest review.
"**Lucky Boucher never has to go looking for trouble. Trouble finds her just fine on its own.**

What do a turkey, a maze, and an inflatable flotation suit have in common?

As usual, just one thing. Me, Lucky Boucher.

It’s a standard Monday, and in my life that means I’m performing a product test that would make most people faint and stumbling upon a dead body in the process. In fact, I float right over it.

Dahlia Hayes is the fiancĂ©e of a notorious arms dealer, and now she’s toe up in the biggest lake in town. If that weren’t bad enough, she has past ties to Liam. He’s the grouchy ex FBI agent who has become my sidekick. That or I’ve become his. Some days, I can’t tell which. However, for the first time since we started solving crimes together, Liam and I find ourselves on opposite sides of the proverbial fence. Getting to the bottom of this murder is going to be tricky.

Things are heating up fast here in Salty Springs. I’m just not sure which is running higher in the case of the drowned debutante—the stakes or the tension. There’s only one way to find out, though—jump right in.

And I’m just the girl to do a cannonball into the middle of it.

**Each story can be read as a stand-alone, so feel free to dive in anywhere**"

My Thoughts:

This series has continually delivered and once again I was hooked by this story. What I love about these books is how they are just so easy to devour. They are quick and fun reads that deliver in every single way. Lucky truly is a great heroine. She is a ton of fun and nothing ever gets her down. She is tenacious and a fighter and nothing ever keeps her down for long. And I still absolutely love Liam. He is a grumpy guy with a heart of gold. And the way these two play off one another is just so much fun. Their banter is amazing and I love that even as their relationship has progressed, they still haven’t lost that back and forth. I also really love Regina and how she’s such a great friend to Lucky. Everyone needs a BFF like that. In this story, Lucky once again finds herself tangled up in a murder mystery, but this time it seems like Liam is tied up in it too. Naturally, Lucky will not stand for that and is on the case. Along the way she gets herself into a few mishaps but she’s not named Lucky for nothing. I loved following Lucky as she solved the case. I just really love that these books are such a great escape from the real world. These books just continue to get better and better and this may be the best one yet.
