66 Thoughts I Had While Re-Reading Throne Of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Release Date: August 7, 2012
from Bloomsbury USA Children's
Goodreads | Amazon

"In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king's champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass—and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world."

My Thoughts:

1. Spoilers for the series.
2. And here we goooooo.
3. It’s crazy to think, but sending her to Endovier. saved her… had things gone as planned, Arobynn would have “saved” her and she would have been back in his grasp.
4. DORIAN!
5. UGH PERRINGTON HAS OBSIDIAN EYES AND HE’S RIGHT THERE.
6. Man, I forgot how terrible Dorian and Chaol were here treating Celaena like a thing.
7. “She would go through the gates of the wyrd and hell itself if it meant her freedom” wow just wow.
8. Early Chaol makes me insane… he sees so much in black and white.
9. I adored Celaena’s note to Dorian about the library. So perfect.
10. AND HIS RESPONSE. I love how well Celaena and Dorian get along and that they get along like that forever.
11. Ahh Kaltain… one thing I’ll always love about this series is that SJM fooled us. She presented us with these seemingly vapid, stereotypical characters, who turned out to be so much more. All that stuff was a mask they wore.
12. Chaol so cranky.
13. Aww Brullo!
14. Nox! Love him. Love him so much.
15. I know this was something so many people didn’t love about Celaena, but I loved her “arrogance”. She was confident in herself and her abilities and she should be. We always expect women to be meek and shy and not confident in themselves and I loved that Celaena was the complete opposite of that.
16. And I also love that Celaena is so tough and rough and an assassin, but also loves pretty things and dresses and chocolates. Women contain multitudes and can be more than one thing.
17. Ugh Nehemia. I’m probably the only one who doesn’t really love her. She practically wraps up Celaena for slaughter.
18. In hindsight I feel SLIGHTLY bad for Caine because he clearly has a ring on and has been an experiment of sorts.
19. I loved Nox. I wish he had stuck around.
20. “What did you do to deserve it?” Such a shit statement from Chaol… and shows how he views the world right now.
21. Chaol is so closed minded sometimes.
22. Poor Kaltain. She got played so well.
23. “That somewhere between the notes was Sam.” *sobs*
24. More evidence in my “Celaena was not selfish” argument – she risks losing the tournament that holds her freedom to save Nox who she barely knows at this point.
25. And again, this moment of kindness will come back to help her later.
26. I think what bothers me most about Nehemia is that Celaena tried to trust again and make a friend and it turns out this friend placed herself there on purpose. And whether Nehemia truly considered Celaena a friend or not doesn’t take away that this was all a set up for her to be sacrificed in the end.
27. Chaol forever scolding Dorian *snorts*
28. Ugh Elena.
29. None of this would have happened if Elena hadn’t been so dumb all those years ago.
30. “I’m not who you think I am.”
31. Chaol thinks he’s the boss of everyone.
32. Elena has to be so secretive about everything because Elena is the worst.
33. OF COURSE CELAENA IS ANGRY. SHE HAS BEEN THROUGH HORRORS.
34. I love and appreciate Dorian more and more with every re-read.
35. Celaena is scary smart sometimes and I love it.
36. So many tiny Perrington hints.
37. “But you and I are on the same side.” I mean sure Elena if you consider the same side a side where you’re manipulating her because of your past mistakes.
38. Fleetfoot!
39. Lies lies lies all lies.
40. AH LOVE YULEMAS!
41. I love the scene where Celaena goes through all the candy.
42. When Dorian weighs the candy. I cant. Best scene.
43. Whittle baby present Fleetfoot.
44. Deanna’s arrow!
45. There was something very sweet about Dorian and Celaena.
46. Love little baby Fleetfoot.
47. “We all bear scars” “mine just happen to be more visible than most” her scars were always important to her which makes Kingdom of Ash more devastating.
48. My badass Celaena destroying crazy monsters.
49. This Nehemia not trusting Celaena stuff is bs… from the person who’s manipulating everyone.
50. Maybe you shouldn’t trust the King Chaol. Idk he’s fucking crazy.
51. Nox is so great. I’m gonna miss him. See you in six books.
52. I love how so often when Celaena is thinking of her past there is a mention of fire somewhere.
53. “I will not be afraid” Sam is always with her in big moments.
54. Frickin cheaters.
55. Knew they could never beat our badass assassin without cheating.
56. “They called to her” “a dangerous name”
57. “Get up”
58. Still one of the best scenes.
59. “As fast as an arrow of Deanna”
60. BYE CAINE
61. I mean Kaltain was wrong, but they manipulated her and threw her under a bus.
62. Lies Nehemia lies.
63. Aww and that’s the end of Dorian and Celaena, but I love that they become SUCH amazing friends.
64. And I love how he doesn’t fight her or push her on it and respects her choice.
65. “You could rattle the stars, you could do anything if you only dared.”
66. “Blood ties can’t be broken.”

Wrap Up:
I love this book and going back they all seem so young and have so much ahead of them. I also love how much foreshadowing there is in this book. It’s just insane. Love it forever.
