"Would you trade your soul mate for your soul?

A Shadowhunter’s life is bound by duty. Constrained by honor. The word of a Shadowhunter is a solemn pledge, and no vow is more sacred than the vow that binds parabatai, warrior partners—sworn to fight together, die together, but never to fall in love.

Emma Carstairs has learned that the love she shares with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, isn’t just forbidden—it could destroy them both. She knows she should run from Julian. But how can she when the Blackthorns are threatened by enemies on all sides?

Their only hope is the Black Volume of the Dead, a spell book of terrible power. Everyone wants it. Only the Blackthorns can find it. Spurred on by a dark bargain with the Seelie Queen, Emma; her best friend, Cristina; and Mark and Julian Blackthorn journey into the Courts of Faerie, where glittering revels hide bloody danger and no promise can be trusted. Meanwhile, rising tension between Shadowhunters and Downworlders has produced the Cohort, an extremist group of Shadowhunters dedicated to registering Downworlders and “unsuitable” Nephilim. They’ll do anything in their power to expose Julian’s secrets and take the Los Angeles Institute for their own.

When Downworlders turn against the Clave, a new threat rises in the form of the Lord of Shadows—the Unseelie King, who sends his greatest warriors to slaughter those with Blackthorn blood and seize the Black Volume. As dangers close in, Julian devises a risky scheme that depends on the cooperation of an unpredictable enemy. But success may come with a price he and Emma cannot even imagine, one that will bring with it a reckoning of blood that could have repercussions for everyone and everything they hold dear."

My Thoughts:

I hurt all over and I’m never going to be okay again. Holy wow this book packed a punch and it DESTROYED ME. I have come to love these characters so much and I just want to take them all and protect them, but they all insist on living in a dangerous world and I can’t protect them and my heart hurts. The ending to this book packed a punch and I am hurting.

I don’t know how to process this book. So many of my lovely and favorite characters are left in danger and my heart literally cannot handle it. This series forever holds a special place in my heart and I do not do well when my babies are threatened and SO MANY OF THEM ARE THREATENED RIGHT NOW.

I have to first talk about my lovely Julian. I absolutely adore him and he has become one of my all-time favorites. There is literally nothing he won’t do for his family and his devotion is heartbreaking and heartwarming. He has had to deal with so much in his young life and it breaks my heart. He means everything to his family and they mean everything to him. He is so ruthless when it comes to those he loves and I can’t help but love him more and more as I read. Which is why I was dismayed to learn that apparently he isn’t all the popular? And I’m like WHYYY I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.

Then there is my girl Emma, who I adore. She is so fierce and strong and witty and she is a girl after my own heart. I love how she is always the strongest one in the room and I especially love that Julian loves her all the more for that and is never put off by her strength. She is self-sacrificing and brave and truly the greatest Shadowhunter of her generation. She is a wonderful heroine who is strong and flawed and realistic.

And then there are all the other characters that stole my heart. Ty. Oh how I adored Ty and how he wormed his way into my heart. And Livvy. Who is so protective of her brother and so strong. And Kit. My gosh, Kit really won me over during the course of this book. And Mark who I have loved since I first met him and whose struggles break me, but I love his strength and how far he has come. Then there is Cristina who I adore. So strong and fierce and such a wonderful friend. And Dru and Tavvy own me as well. And Diana! My gosh that woman is strong! And last but not least… Kieran. That fae won me over in this one. Holy wow did I come to love him so much. And it helped that in the narration James Marsters made Kieran sound a bit like Spike.

Lord Of Shadows kept me on my toes and I never knew what was going to happen next. It is abundantly clear that this series is going to have a serious impact on the Shadowhunter world. The ending wrecked me in so many ways. The Infernal Devices will forever be my favorite and the first The Mortal Instruments trilogy introduced me to this world and will therefore forever hold a special place in my heart, but this series is quickly becoming a top favorite.

Lord Of Shadows seriously broke me and I’m so in love with it. Waiting for Queen Of Air And Darkness is going to be torture. I need my answers and waiting is going to be agony.
