"Everyone knows what happens in the end. A mermaid, a prince, a true love’s kiss. But before that young siren’s tale, there were three friends. One feared, one royal, and one already dead.

Ever since her best friend, Anna, drowned, Evie has been an outcast in her small fishing town. A freak. A curse. A witch.

A girl with an uncanny resemblance to Anna appears offshore and, though the girl denies it, Evie is convinced that her best friend actually survived. That her own magic wasn’t so powerless after all. And, as the two girls catch the eyes—and hearts—of two charming princes, Evie believes that she might finally have a chance at her own happily ever after.

But her new friend has secrets of her own. She can’t stay in Havnestad, or on two legs, unless Evie finds a way to help her. Now Evie will do anything to save her friend’s humanity, along with her prince’s heart—harnessing the power of her magic, her ocean, and her love until she discovers, too late, the truth of her bargain."

My Thoughts:

Oh my, that one hurt! I mean. We all know this story; I knew where this was going! I’ve been here before, I’ve seen that tree… and yet it still was a sucker punch to the gut. This ending is one of those endings that stays with you. The kind you can’t let go of, that you go back and read a few times before saying goodbye to the book, the kind that hours later is still on repeat in your brain.

What I enjoyed most about this book is the giant twist it took toward the end there. I was reading thinking I knew how we were going to get to the end, I saw it clearly coming, but then all of a sudden we got to that ending very differently than I expected and it was a smack in the face. I loved how this book took me by surprise. Honestly it’s a slower paced book and it’s probably not what you expect. It builds so slowly and it has so much heart and love.

I adored Evie so much. She truly cares and loves with all her heart. She is such a good friend and just a good person. I also adored Nick. What an absolute sweetheart. He is so good and so sweet and I loved him to pieces. I also loved Nick and Evie’s bond and their friendship so much.

Sea Witch was not what I was expecting, but it really delivered. The writing was gorgeous and the book hit me right where it hurts. This is a great origin story and that epilogue is such a great way to round out the story. I won’t be forgetting this book anytime soon.
