Release Date: June 5, 2018

"Zera is a Heartless – the immortal, unageing soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her family, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.

Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a Prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum; if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy her heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.

Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him – every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him – until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The Prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.

So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.

Winner takes the loser’s heart.

My Thoughts:

I knew this was going to be a Teresa book, but it still managed to blow me away. Once I picked it up it was incredibly hard to stop reading. I only stopped once because I had to get some sleep, but the second I got home from work the next day I picked it up and read it through to the end. The concept is so so good and I am pretty much obsessed with this book and I need the next book ASAP as possible, because who gave the book permission to end like that?!?! Pretty sure that ending is ILLEGAL!

Zera is such a great heroine. She is so complex and has so many layers and she is far from perfect. Her motives are selfish, but she struggles with them and she struggles with who she is. Zera is a Heartless and she hates it, she doesn’t want to be a monster but she has done terrible things when she let that monster take control. And then we have our Prince… Lucian. I adored him. He comes off so cold initially but then you slowly see behind the mask. He tries so hard to make people think he doesn’t care but he cares more than most. And OMG the banter between Zera and Lucian is fantastic! Both of them are so witty and they go back and forth so well. Honestly the banter all around is fantastic, which brings me to some of the other characters I adored. Malachite is probably my favorite and he had me cracking up on multiple occasions. And I loved Fione too. All of these characters are so witty and are all characters after my own heart. Pun 100% intended.

The plot of this book was consuming and addictive. I could not put it down. It balances action with scheming and intrigue so well, but it also has romantic moments. And OH MAH GAH the romance! It was such a slow burn but also enemies to lovers and both were done so well. Zera comes so far over the course of this book and my heart hurt for her. She really struggled and in the course of trying to get her heart back she formed relationships and started to find her humanity.

I think one of my favorite things about this book though is that nobody is really fully good or bad, well there is one person who needs to go die in a hole, but for the most part everyone has their motivations and the motivations are understandable. Zera is a Heartless, not by choice, but she’s still done terrible things and is willing to do terrible things. The witches aren’t exactly good creating Heartless and their past is dark, but they also aren’t bad and much of what they did was to protect themselves in a war. And the humans are the same. So many are manipulated and scared, but then there are those using that for their own ends. Basically there is just a lot going on and so many moving pieces and layers.

All in all, Bring Me Their Hearts is an incredible fantasy read. I cannot wait for the sequel because I need to know what is coming next!

  1. Ahhhh, for some reason I thought this was a July publication! I need to get myself together LOL. The ARC has been sitting on my floor, waiting for me to pick it back up. up. This sounds awesome! Although the ending makes me nervous! Hopefully the wait for book two won't be too long. Fantastic review, Teresa!
