Book Review: Scorched (Frigid #2) by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Release Date: June 16, 2015
from Spencer Hill Press
Goodreads | Amazon

"Sometimes life leaves a mark.

Most days, Andrea doesn’t know whether she wants to kiss Tanner or punch him in the gut. He is seriously hot, with legit bedroom eyes and that firefighter body of his, but he’s a major player, and they can’t get along for more than a handful of minutes. Until now.

Tanner knows he and Andrea have had an epic love/hate relationship for as long as he can remember, but he wants more love than hate from her. He wants her. Now. Tomorrow. But the more he gets to know her, the more it becomes obvious that Andrea has a problem. She’s teetering on the edge, and every time he tries to catch her, she slips through his fingers.

Andrea’s life is spiraling out of control, and it doesn’t matter that Tanner wants to save her, because when everything falls apart and she’s speeding toward rock bottom, only she can save herself.

Sometimes life makes you work for that happily ever after…"

My Thoughts:

We all know I am a huge JLA fan, so I don’t really know how I missed this when it first came out…. I think I got super busy at work and then never circled back… but I am glad I rectified this because Scorched was another great JLA read. This is different from some of her other reads and isn’t as romance driven, but I think that made this book all the better.

Andrea and Tanner are both great characters. Of course I fell head over heels for Tanner. He is so funny and charming and witty. But he is also incredibly sweet and devoted and is just a good guy. I loved that he went for Andrea and didn’t hold back, but also knew that he couldn’t fix her problems unless she wanted to fix them. Which brings me to Andrea. This is really Andrea's story… not Andrea and Tanner… but Andrea. She is a great person but she has her struggles and she has been ignoring them for ages, which has led her down a road she never wanted to travel. This book sees Andrea come to terms with the consequences of her actions and come to terms with herself. I loved Andrea and I was so proud of how she handled everything.

Like I mentioned briefly, this isn’t a romance driven book, but of course it is present. I loved Tanner and Andrea together so much. They balanced each other so well and their banter was a lot of fun. It brought light heartedness to a very serious topic. And I loved how Tanner never thought any less of Andrea for everything she went through. I just thought that was so important because people can be so judgmental and it was nice to see Tanner be the opposite of that.

Of course I loved seeing Syd and Kyler again. I adore those two and they were super cute together. And like with Tanner, I loved how supportive they both were of Andrea; especially Syd. She is a great friend to Andrea and I love seeing strong friendships portrayed.

All in all, Scorched was another great read from JLA. She portrays a very serious topic well and balances Andrea’s story with the romance perfectly. I’m glad I finally made time for this one.
