Book Review: No Falling Allowed (No Kissing Allowed #2) by: Melissa West

Release Date: July 18, 2016
from Entangled Embrace
Goodreads | Amazon
Source: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
"My life just went South…

Twenty-four hours. That’s how long it took my life to flip upside down.

Wake up in bed alone after the best night of my life? Check.

Get fired instead of the promised promotion? Check.

Wealthy parents cut me off when I refuse to follow their path for my life? Check.

Now I’m in Cricket Creek, SC—a place where no New Yorker belongs—disowned and broke, with a new job that I can’t mess up. Oh yeah, and staring at my one-night stand, who happens to be the complete opposite of my type.

Southern.

Cocky.

Bartender.

Noah Hunter never should have made it back to my apartment in NYC, and I definitely shouldn’t be in his small town. But fate had another plan. Or a horrible sense of humor.

Who knew Mr. Wrong could feel so right… "

My Thoughts:

This one was really sweet and I had fun reading it. Melissa West is so good at delivering a super sweet romance. I love that it was relatively drama free and just a good romance.

Grace is not the most relatable character. She grew up in a way most people just cannot relate to. But she is a character you can respect and I think that’s important. I may not understand what its like to be her, but I respected her decisions and desire to make something of herself on her own. Most people in her situation would have been content to take the world handed to them on a platter, but not Grace. With Noah I have a love/hate relationship. He is a fantastic guy and the way he is with his brother is too sweet for words. But he is also a guy and therefore dumb. Sometimes I wanted to take him and shake him cause boy would make rash decisions and be dumb. In the end I did like him though and I loved them together.

Even with the romance, I think my favorite thing about this one was the relationship between Grace, Cameron, and Lauren. I am such a big fan of positive female frienships and I love these three and that they are always there for one another. I also loved seeing a super awesome Aidan and Cameron moment.

No Falling Allowed was a sweet romance and its perfect when you need a quick no nonsense read.

  TORN - RDL Teaser 1

EXCERPT:

I lifted my right hand, reaching for my iron stake out of instinct, even though I knew it would do no good against the prince.
“You shouldn’t do that.” His voice was deep with what reminded me of an English accent. “I know you want to, but it would be very, very unwise of you, Ivy.”
My hand twitched.
Creepy Prince smiled slightly. “Your friend has been very helpful.”
That got my hackles up. I slid my sunglasses onto my forehead and forced my tone to stay calm and level. “I’m sure she has. Speaking of Val, happen to know where I can find her?”
His lips curled in a semblance of a smile as he stepped closer. The prince was tall, taller than Ren, who was pushing six foot two. My entire back stiffened as I forced myself to hold my ground, even though every instinct demanded that I run and run super fast, because he had almost killed me once before. Correction. He would have definitely killed me if he hadn’t realized what I was and had, I guessed, healed me.
“I’ve been waiting for you,” he said, instead of answering my question, his pale blue eyes fixed on mine.
My hand curled into a useless fist. “That is extremely creepy to hear.”
That cold smile returned. “Why don’t we talk? There are seats across the way.”
“Yeah, that’s not going to happen.”
The slow smile increased but never reached his eyes. “Oh, I know it is.”
Fine hairs rose on my arms.
“What exactly can you do right now?” he said in the same coldly polite voice. “Refuse me?” Creepy Prince laughed, and it wasn’t a bad sound. Again, it was something that was just cold, as if he were mimicking what a human would do. “You can’t.”
“I can.” My palm itched to grab the thorn stake secured under my pant leg, but I held still. I might be reckless, but I wasn’t stupid.
“Really? I will have to beg to differ on that. You see, humans surround us. So many of them, and I have an extraordinary appetite.” His eyes appeared to glimmer as his gaze slithered from the top of my curly head down to my toes. “A rather impressive appetite for many, many things.”
“Okay. First off, ew.” My lip curled. “Secondly, I don’t want to hear about any of your appetites.”
One dark eyebrow rose. “Oh, but you should know that I could kill twenty of these humans in less than five seconds and feed on the rest, leaving them to believe that it was this little red-headed girl who murdered these innocent people.” His voice dropped even lower as he leaned in and icy air brushed my cheek. “You deny me this, those lives will be on your hands, little bird.”
Anger flushed hotly as my eyes met his. There wasn’t a single part of me that doubted anything he said. He had me. God, I hated to admit it, but he had me.

"Drama! Action! Romance! Twists! Torn had it all...Torn was a perfect continuation of the Wicked Saga." ~Kim, Kimberlyfaye Reads

Book Review: Torn (A Wicked Trilogy #2) by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Release Date: July 19, 2016
Goodreads | Amazon
Source: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
"Torn between duty and survival, nothing can be the same.

My Thoughts:

Look, I love basically all JLA books, so I shouldn’t be surprised but I truly adored Torn, even more so than Wicked. It’s been a while since I have been so invested in a book. I’ve been in a big reading slump, but I devoured Torn in a way I haven’t devoured a book in about two/three months and the feeling was wonderful. I love all things JLA, but Torn ranks up real high on the JLA favorites list.

I absolutely adore Ivy. She is so so strong and I admire that strength so much. She doesn’t give up and she is willing to make sacrifices for those she loves. I love how kickass she is and that she refuses to go down without a fight. I also love her sass. She doesn’t always think before speaking and I love it. Poor Ivy is put through the wringer in this one, but she is tough as nails.

Then we have Ren and Ren is basically the best. Ren has a lot of competition since JLA is the queen of book boyfriends, but he holds up well. Ren is such a great mix of alpha and beta hero. He is protective of Ivy and wants her safe and is obviously a badass, but he also knows she can handle herself and doesn’t hold her back. He lets her do her thing and helps when she needs it. It’s awesome and I love their dynamic.

I would be remiss if I didn’t take the time to talk about Tink because Tink is THE BEST. He never failed to crack me up. He is so funny and he steals every scene he is in. Tink is easily my favorite of all her secondary characters and it hurts me to betray Deacon this way, but I love Tink and I relate to him (don’t judge). While we are talking about secondary characters, I gotta talk about our newest character Dixon cause love. Basically this book has a great cast of supporting characters.

Torn has such a great balance of romance and action. Of course I adore the romance between Ivy and Ren and I loved the steamy scenes, but I also loved everything else the story delivered. The plot was awesome and non-stop and the action was fantastic. This whole world and concept is awesome and I love this take on fae. I love how the world expanded in this one and the twists delivered.

Torn was a great read from beginning to end and I simply devoured it. Waiting for the next book is going to be torture.

On My Shelf: Click To Subscribe by: LM Augustine

On My Shelf is a feature I started here on the blog and I'm sure there are a ton of similar ones out there, but basically I just wanted to start spotlighting some of the MANY backlist titles I have accumulated on my shelf and kindle. The idea is to spotlight an older book I have on my massive TBR. I also thought it would be a fun way to discuss these books with my fellow bloggers, get some of your thoughts and figure out which ones I need to read ASAP and which ones can wait a bit more. And if you want to join in too, I would love to see what is on your shelf! Just leave me a link in the comments.

I grabbed this book forever ago because it sounded freaking adorable... and then like I do all too often I forgot about it's existence. But as I was scrolling through my kindle I was reminded of the cuteness and decided to feature it this week and hopefully someone out in the bloggy world has read it.

So tell me. Have you read it? Did you love it? Hate it? Was it meh?

Blog Tour: Stealing Home by: Nicole Williams (Review, Excerpt, & Teasers)

Stealing Home Blog Tour.jpg

"Being the only woman working for a professional baseball team isn’t easy. As the San Diego Shock’s newest athletic trainer, Allie knows all about long hours, endless travel, and warding off players’ advances. Given she’s already the subject of a handful of rumors about how “lucky” she was to have earned such a coveted position, she can’t so much as flutter an eyelash a player’s way if she wants to be taken seriously.

But number eleven is doing more than fluttering eyelashes Allie’s way. Far more. Luke Archer is at the top of his game and doesn’t let the fear of striking out keep him from swinging. This is a motto he applies both on and off the field, but Allie appears immune, seeming to view Luke as nothing more than caution tape on legs.

He’s a player, and in Allie’s experience, they’re all the same. She won’t risk her job or her heart to another one, no matter how different this one claims to be. But as Allie gets to know him, she discovers the number eleven the public thinks they know is very different from the real Luke Archer. He seems too good to be true.

And maybe he is.

Allie will have to confront the stories attached to a player of Luke Archer’s stature and decide who she’ll put her faith in—The man she’s falling for? Or the rumors?"

My Thoughts:

Nicole Williams is one of my very favorite authors and it’s because I know her books will always deliver for me. No matter what she is writing; a lighter sports romance or a dark emotional journey, I always devour her books. Stealing Home delivered in every way. From the characters to the romance to the story, I was hooked.

I loved Allie. She is so hardworking and has climbed her way to her dream job in a male dominated industry and I admired that so much. I loved that she was so well rounded with flaws and insecurities but also had confidence in her work and career. I related to that a lot. I also really loved her banter and no nonsense attitude.

Then we have Luke and none of us stand a chance against Luke. Luke is the best player in baseball, working on legend status. He should be a baseball god, but that’s not the case. Luke is sexy yes, but he is also ridiculously charming and awkwardly endearing. For a baseball legend, Luke is also really awkward and not the player one would expect him to be. To put it simply, he is a great guy. I fell for him very quickly.

Nicole’s books always grab me and Stealing Home grabbed me quickly. From the get go I was invested. I also know she enjoys throwing twists at her readers and this twist caught me off guard. I felt so smart thinking I had pegged her twist for once BUT THEN I WAS WRONG AND THE TWIST WAS DIFFERENT. So yeah, she kept me on edge once again. Nicole’s books excel at hitting you right in the feels. I always go on such a roller coaster of elated to heartbroken to ridiculously happy. It’s the best kind of ride.

Stealing Home was a great read and I loved the romance and baseball combination. Can’t wait to see what Nicole Williams gives us next.

Excerpt:

“Shouldn’t you buy me dinner first or something?” Archer smirked at me when he lifted up onto his elbows as I tugged his sweats down his legs.

“Tell you what,” I replied after I gave one last pull, freeing the dark gray sweats from him. After handing him a towel, I waited for him to drape it over his lap. Instead he curled it up and tossed it across the hotel room. “How about I draw you a nice, soothing, relaxing bath? Full of ice.”

As I came around the side of his bed, it took all of my concentration to focus on the compress I needed to unwrap instead of what was resting just a little higher. At least he had underwear on, but it wasn’t like they provided much coverage. Especially when what was tucked inside them looked about ready to burst free.

And dammit. I’d looked. From the way I could feel him watching me, he knew I’d looked too.

“Another ice bath. Sounds perfect. Since my balls aren’t already blue enough.” Archer spread his legs open farther as I reached down to unwind the compress circling his upper right thigh.

“Yeah, well, that’s what you get for not listening to the recommendation of your athletic trainer to take it easy.” I unwound the bandage slowly, not wanting to further inflame the area. “Every three hours, we’ll alternate fifteen minutes of ice and heat.”

“Yay.” He cleared his throat when my fingers brushed his inner thigh as I unwound the last of the compress Shepherd had wrapped back in the locker room after his first ice bath. “Since you got to decide on the ice option, how about I decide on the heat option?”

From the low notes in his voice, I knew exactly what he meant. “The plan is to calm the tear. Not further aggravate it.”

“Okay. I can work with that.” When I exhaled, he added, “I’ve got ideas.”

“Ideas that involve what you have in mind and not using your groin muscles?” My gaze wandered back to that part of his anatomy. Right before moving onto a different part of it. Holy shit. Something about knowing he wanted me and wasn’t concerned with hiding that desire made me dizzy. “Good luck with that.”

Archer watched me as I disappeared into the bathroom to turn off the water filling the tub. “Never underestimate the ingenuity of a desperate man.”

After testing the temperature of the bath, I grabbed one more bag of ice and dumped it in. I’d arranged to have four new bags arrive every few hours through the night so I could mitigate the damage Archer’s pulled groin muscle would have on his season.

The team doctor had done an exam in the locker room and assured Coach Beckett that with aggressive care these first twenty-four hours, Archer should be able to play the game in New Orleans three days from now.

From my own exam, I knew the doctor was giving Coach a serious case of lip service. The only way Archer would be able to play the Shock’s next game was if we injected him with every illegal substance in this sport and on the market in general. It was a class two pull—no amount of walking off would fix this in a couple days’ time.

“Are you hungry, Doc?” Archer called from the other room.

“That depends on the context of that question.”

His laugh carried into the bathroom. “You know me too well. However, in this instance, I’m referring to hunger as in for food. The room service type specifically. I can order something for us so we can eat once you’re done cryogenically freezing my gonads.”

Wandering back into his room, I dried off my hands with a towel. “Hey, this isn’t my fault—I warned you to take it easy.”

I ceremoniously waved my arms toward the bathroom, feeling nervous. I’d given so many ice baths I could have filled an entire ocean with them, but this one was different. It was for Luke Archer. In his hotel room instead of the locker room. Plus, back there, the entire coaching and medical staff had been present, pow-wowing a plan of treatment. No one else was here now though.

Just me. Just him. And a locked door.

“Dinner?” Archer waved the room service menu at me.

“I’ll order it for us. We need to get you in the tub before you get any more swollen.”

Archer’s gaze swept down his body, landing on the very part of him I was trying not to inspect. “I can think of something to help with the ‘swelling.’”

Crossing my arms, I gave him an unfazed look. “I’m here to see to your leg. Not your dick.”

“I think that by taking care of one, you’ll be taking care of the other.”

“True. Ice baths are up to the task of tending to torn muscles and swollen dicks. So let’s get started.”

Archer lay stretched out in bed for another minute, calling my bluff, but when I made no move to throw myself at him, he sighed. “The ice bath it is.”

“Good choice.”

"In this modern day spinoff of Leroux’s gothic tale of unrequited love turned to madness, seventeen-year-old Rune Germain has a mysterious affliction linked to her operatic talent, and a horrifying mistake she’s trying to hide. Top Ten Tuesday: Facts About Me

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish.

Okay so this is actually difficult. I hate coming up with lists like this about myself, but I shall try.

1) I played Division 1 college golf.

2) My favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast and I have more Belle/Beast memorabilia than I would like to admit to.

3) Harry Potter is my obsession and that obsession has led to more funkos than I will ever need, multiple copies of the book, and a tattoo.

4) Sarah J Maas is my other obsession and her books own my soul.

5) I collect coffee mugs and could probably use a different cup every day for a few months.

6) I am a huge sports fan, with the exception of basketball. But hockey is forever my favorite and LETS GO RANGERS! Also I am a Cowboys and Mets fan and I will fight you.

7) I am a dog person and grew up with lots of puppies but now I am a proud cat owner. I have basically taught her to be a puppy.

8) My go to TV channel is HGTV because it is the kind of TV that can be watched for hours on end. Also, the better Property Brother is obviously Jonathan.

9) I love all things Disney and I tend to always pick Disney for my vacation.

10) I'm still really mad over that stupid Walking Dead cliffhanger.
