Book Review: Their Fractured Light (Starbound #3) by: Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner

Release Date: December 1, 2015
from Disney Hyperion
Goodreads | Amazon

"A year ago, Flynn Cormac and Jubilee Chase made the now infamous Avon Broadcast, calling on
the galaxy to witness for their planet, and protect them from destruction. Some say Flynn’s a madman, others whisper about conspiracies. Nobody knows the truth. A year before that, Tarver Merendsen and Lilac LaRoux were rescued from a terrible shipwreck—now, they live a public life in front of the cameras, and a secret life away from the world’s gaze.

Now, in the center of the universe on the planet of Corinth, all four are about to collide with two new players, who will bring the fight against LaRoux Industries to a head. Gideon Marchant is an eighteen-year-old computer hacker—a whiz kid and an urban warrior. He’ll climb, abseil and worm his way past the best security measures to pull off onsite hacks that others don’t dare touch.

Sofia Quinn has a killer smile, and by the time you’re done noticing it, she’s got you offering up your wallet, your car, and anything else she desires. She holds LaRoux Industries responsible for the mysterious death of her father and is out for revenge at any cost.

When a LaRoux Industries security breach interrupts Gideon and Sofia’s separate attempts to infiltrate their headquarters, they’re forced to work together to escape. Each of them has their own reason for wanting to take down LaRoux Industries, and neither trusts the other. But working together might be the best chance they have to expose the secrets LRI is so desperate to hide."

My Thoughts:

Their Fractured Light was easily my favorite of the series and I didn’t think anyone could beat out Lilac and Tarver. There were so many things I loved about this book and I loved seeing everything from the series get tied together in an awesome way. This book kept me hooked and engaged and reading late into the night.

I’m not going to lie, a big reason why this was my favorite of the series was Gideon. I ABSOLUTELY ADORED Gideon. His humor and wit was awesome and I couldn’t help but love him. His chapters were my favorite and I adored his voice and humor even in crazy circumstances. I also adored Sophia and how strong she was and how wicked smart she was. Those two together could cause a ton of trouble and I loved watching it. It really is a toss up between Lilac/Tarver and Gideon/Sophia as to which couple I love more, but hands down Gideon is my favorite guy.

The way this entire series came together in the end was crazy. I really didn’t know how this was all going to resolve, but it was crazy. And the way all three seemingly separate stories wove into one was really amazing. These six lives seemed very far apart, but they all were interwined and it was really cool how the authors orchestrated that. That ending definitely kept me on my toes and caught me off guard and I loved it. This whole series has kept me guessing and I really loved that.

What I love about this series is that it is everything I love about sci-fi without being an info dump. I never feel bogged down by information or that the pace of the story is lacking in order to get the reader caught up. The story moves at a great pace and I never felt like it lulled.

I would also like to take a moment of silence to recognize that we will never have another amazing cover from this series; seriously some of my all time favorites, I may have even hung the posters in my living room.

All in all, Their Fractured Light was a fantastic way to end this series and I am still amazed at the way everything came together. I cannot recommend this series enough!

  1. Can you believe that I still haven't even started this series? The shame! I will though, I swear it's been on my tbr shelf since the first book came out XD I needed to know how you made out with the finale my friend and for what it's worth: I WILL bump this up my tbr shelf now thanks to you :) GREAT review^^ ♥

  2. This was definitely my second favorite book in the series, These Broken Stars will always have a special place. I totally agree with you about the lack of info dump! For a sci-fi series, I thought the authors did a great job of navigating us through. Although the second book really confused me at times.

  3. I still need to read this book! I loved books one and two, and even got a copy of book three around pub time... never got around to reading the book. Whoops! I think I need to bump this one up and experience Gideon. ;)

    Wonderful review, Teresa!

  4. I just love the covers in this series! I'm so excited that the final book turned out to be your favorite. I'll definitely have to read these. You have me very curious about the way the separate stories weave into one, and I also want to meet Gideon. Wonderful review, Wifey!

  5. I def really liked this book, probably on par with the first book.

I love getting comments and appreciate every single one of them! It always brightens my day =]

This is an award free blog. I truly appreciate the thought but I simply do not have the time. Comments are an award all on their own =]
