My Thoughts:It took me forever to finally suck it up and read this book, but now that I have I am so glad I finally made myself finish this series. I actually originally started reading it when it first came out, but then I never finished because I just was not ready to say goodbye…. so like the adult I am I ignored it. Over a year later I finally decided it was time, I picked it up and started from the beginning again. Then once again I got to about the same point as the first time I tried to read it and just suddenly stopped reading… partially because I got busy and partially because once again I was scared of the ending. But then I really decided to suck it up and read and once I did I had trouble stopping. I even ended up power listening to the last half of the book one day at work.
This has always been a weird series but Retribution somehow got even weirder. There are so many moving pieces to this story and it makes your head spin at times, but it also has an addictive quality to it. Mara is such a unique heroine. She is an anti-heroine at its finest and I love her all the more for that. She is so flawed and has no qualms about doing unthinkable things, but I cannot help but root for her the entire time. I love her and her crazy more than I can say.
I have to say this though; the main drawback for me with Retribution was the lack of Noah Shaw. It takes a really long time for him to appear again (and I don’t think this is a spoiler because boy is on the cover, obviously he is going to be in it, and also because a spin off/sequel has already been announced). I don’t like being that reader that gets hung up on where the guy is, but I couldn’t help it here. Noah is a fantastic character and he brings so much to the story and I seriously missed the dynamic between him and Mara. Their banter is phenomenal and has always been one of my absolute favorite parts of this series. So naturally, it was really tough for me with him being MIA for a good portion of the book. I will say though, that once he shows up he makes up for it. GAHH some of those scenes were awesome. There were quite a few quotes at the end that I absolutely fell in love with. And those last few lines of the book were awesome. It was such a crazy way to bring the series to a close. It now has me excited to see this world continued, even though I am super nervous to see my beloved characters go through more trouble.
The Retribution Of Mara Dyer was a weird yet great wrap up to a great series. This is an incredibly unique and engaging series that I would recommend to basically everyone.
