Book Review: First Drop Of Crimson (Night Huntress World #1) by: Jeaniene Frost

Release Date: February 9, 2010
from Avon
Goodreads | Amazon

"The night is not safe for mortals.

Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows – her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield – and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s dark past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness – and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who craves a taste of her.

He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human – even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the demon nightmare together…

Because once the first drop of crimson falls, they will both be lost."

My Thoughts:

I’m not going to lie; I went into this book excited but also really nervous. I absolutely adore Cat and Bones and I just didn’t know how Spade and Denise would measure up, but I ended up loving Spade and Denise so much. The Night Huntress Universe is fantastic and I’m not sure there will ever come a day when I have had enough.

I’ve always loved Spade… from the moment Cat tackled him to the ground I have loved his character, but Spade as a hero of a book was so much better than I ever could have hoped for. Spade is so freakin hot. I loved him and I loved how direct he was once he realized how he felt about Denise. The reader never doubted his feelings and that just makes it so much easier to fall for him.

Denise as a heroine is also awesome. I loved watching her grow over the course of the novel. She really comes into her own over the course of the book and becomes such a strong character. I always knew I liked her but I like her even more now.

Denise and Spade together were absolutely wonderful. I read these kind of out of order. I finished the Night Huntress books before diving into the spin off novels, so I knew that I liked them together but seeing how it all happened and REALLY getting to see them together was fantastic. Their chemistry is amazing and they simply fit well together.

Of course I loved getting to see Cat and Bones again briefly. Those two forever own a piece of my heart so checking in with them was nice. Oh and seeing Ian was great. He is so so funny, even though he is a royal pain in the butt. But I feel the need to say this. If you are expecting Denise and Spade to be Cat and Bones then you will be disappointed. Spade and Denise are not them and they shouldn’t be, they are their own characters. You have to go into the book knowing what you are getting. I knew that Denise and Spade would be different and I ended up loving it.

First Drop Of Crimson was a fantastic addition to the Night Huntress Universe. I absolutely adore Spade and Denise and I’m already dying to read some more spin off novels.

  4. It's really good that despite this being a long series, you're still loving just as much as when you first started. Even though I'm not into vamps anymore, every time I see you post a review about this series, I want to give it a try.

This is an award free blog. I truly appreciate the thought but I simply do not have the time. Comments are an award all on their own =]
