"Asleep for a hundred years, awoken by a kiss, Aurora’s life was supposed to be a fairytale. But since discovering that loyalty to the crown and loyalty to her country are two very different things, Aurora knows she can only dream of happily ever after. Once the enchanted princess, savior of her people, she is now branded a traitor.

Aurora is determined to free her home from the king’s tyrannical rule, even if it means traveling across the sea to the kingdom of the handsome and devious Prince Finnegan—someone who seems to know far more about her magic than he should. However, Finnegan’s kingdom has perils of its own, and any help he gives Aurora will come at a price.

As Aurora and Finnegan work together to harness her power—something so fiery and dangerous that is as likely to destroy those close to Aurora as it is to save them—she begins to unravel the mysteries surrounding the curse that was placed on her over a century before…and uncover the truth about the destiny she was always meant to fulfill.

Brimming with captivating fantasy and life-threatening danger, the sequel to A Wicked Thing takes Sleeping Beauty on an adventure unlike any she’s ever had before."

I really enjoyed A Wicked Thing and I'm looking forward to more from this world. Also YAY for more Finnegan!

Kingdom Of Ashes will be released on February 23, 2016.

I cradled my drink as Cam sauntered back to the pool tables. My mind wasn’t made up on the whole visiting them thing yet. Maybe I would. Maybe I wouldn’t.
            “Want another rum and coke?”
My lips curled up at the sound of Nick’s rich, deep voice. We’d been chatting on and off since I plopped my butt down on the stool, and he had seemed happy that I was there.
Total bonus points lottery with this guy.
“I’m good, but thanks.” The last thing I wanted to be was drunk. I smiled at him, pleased when his heavily hooded gaze dipped again. “Are you guys usually this busy on the weekend?”
I could see that small talk was something Nick excelled at, which made sense, considering his occupation. He was an equal opportunity charmer. Women flocked to him at the bar. The other bartender, the girl with the pink glasses, seemed to take it all in stride.
“Not sure if you really call this busy, but Saturdays usually bring a larger crowd.” He glanced down the bar before continuing. “So you went to school with them?” he asked, jerking his chin in the direction Cam had roamed off to.
“Yeah.” Leaning forward, I placed my elbows on the bar. “I had no idea they had connections here. Total surprise.”
“Small world,” he said, echoing my earlier thought. “But you’re not very close with them.”
It was a statement, not a question. “What makes you think that?”
“Well, if you were, I guess you’d be over there with them. Or …”
Nick was observant. “Or what?”
One side of his lips curled up as he folded his arms across his chest. The movement drew my attention. I was such a visual creature. Not that anyone would blame me right now. The black shirt he wore stretched around well-defined biceps. “Or you’d rather spend the time with me.”
The twisty motion in my belly cranked up a notch. “Am I that transparent?”
“In the best possible way.” He picked up a bottle. “I’m glad you did stop by. Every time the door opened last night, I looked up and hoped it was you.”
            “Is that so?”
“I speak the truth.” His smile was lazy. “Did you finish unpacking?”
“Were there any more rat bastard combinations?”
I laughed. “There were a few more.”
“Kind of mad I missed out on them.”
“There’s always later.” I toyed with my glass as I met and held his stare. “So, Nick, do you have a last name?”
“Blanco,” he replied after a brief hesitation. “Do you?”
“Keith.” I grinned as he unfolded those arms. “I have another question for you.”
Moving in, he placed his hands on the bar. “Ask away.”
“Do you have a girlfriend?” My breath caught a little when he leaned in suddenly. Our mouths were close enough that we were breathing the same tiny patch of oxygen. “Or a boyfriend?”
Nick didn’t bat an eyelash. “Nope to both. How about you?”
            Bonus points explosion!
“None,” I said, welcoming the tingle that swirled down my spine as his breath warmed my lips.
He tilted his head to the side, lining up his mouth with mine with just a fraction of an inch between us. I started to feel a little flushed. “You have plans tonight, Stephanie Keith?” he asked, voice deeper and rougher.
I shook my head as my pulse tripped all over itself in a happy little dance.
Nick’s grin spread into the kind of smile I knew left a trail of women in its wake. “You do now.”

Book Review: Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2) by: Robin LaFevers

Release Date: April 2, 2013
from HMH Books For Young Readers
Goodreads | Amazon

"When Sybella arrived at the doorstep of St Mortain half mad with grief and despair the convent were only too happy to offer her refuge - but at a price. The sisters of this convent serve Death, and with Sybella naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, she could become one of their most dangerous weapons.

But her assassin's skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to the life that nearly drove her mad. Her father's rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother's love is equally monstrous. But when Sybella discovers an unexpected ally she discovers that a daughter of Death may find something other than vengeance to live for..."

My Thoughts:

This book was so incredibly good. I enjoyed Grave Mercy but there was just something about Dark Triumph that made me love it. I was addicted to this book from beginning to end. I loved the characters and the story and the world and just everything.

I adored Sybella. With Grave Mercy, it took me a bit to warm up to Ismae, but with Sybella I loved her immediately. I love her fierceness and her protective nature and how she was such a good person even if she didn’t realize it. She lives a dark life, but that doesn’t make her bad and I loved watching her slowly realize that. She is so strong and just a badass. I can’t fully express how much I loved her.

I also adored Beast! I had already come to like him in Grave Mercy, but with this one I just truly adored him. He is a fantastic character! He is so good and strong and brave! He is determined and will fight to the death for what he believes in. Beast and Sybella together work so well. They complement one another and make one another stronger. They also don’t hold each other back. Beast recognizes that Sybella is deadly and that she can handle herself. I really loved them together and I loved watching Sybella opening up bit by bit.

This world is so engaging and LaFevers does a great job of immersing the reader into the world. It is so easy to get lost in. The plot is also engaging and addictive. It is also really dark. My heart broke for Sybella and her past and everything she has endured. Her story is not an easy one to read and my heart broke but those struggles made the story more rewarding somehow.

It was nice to catch up with Ismae and Gavriel once again. Those two are a great power couple and I love it. I did not like seeing the Abbess again though because I hate her. I don’t know what her deal is, but I dislike her. The Duchess I did like seeing again. I think she is such a strong young lady and she handles everything thrown at her so well.

And of course I need to mention the Beauty and the Beast aspect. It’s not a retelling but there is a definite influence from Beauty and the Beast and I loved that so much! That is forever my favorite fairy tale and I loved seeing it interwoven to the story here.

All in all, Dark Triumph is a great read. Fantasy fans should not miss this series. It has everything you want; great romance, action, scheming, great world building, and great characters. I know I will be reading this one again.

An upcoming release you wish you could get your hands on right now.

Teresa's Pick:

I love this series and the last book had a killer cliffhanger so I cannot wait for the day I have this one in my hands!

Nicole's Pick:

I love Daemon and can't wait for his POV.

Favorite Series Starter

Teresa's Pick:

I love Cat and Bones and this was an awesome start to an awesome series!

Nicole's Pick:

#TeamRoth all day every day!

A book that gave you all the warm fuzzies.

Teresa's Pick:

This book was so sweet and adorable and it made my heart happy.

Nicole's Pick:

Winnie The Pooh is everything.

A book that made you ugly cry.

Teresa's Pick:

That epilogue gutted me. A lot of this book gutted me, but the epilogue hurt my soul.

Nicole's Pick:

When Tod was upset my soul was crushed and I thought I died.

Bookish hero or heroine you want around to protect you in real life.

Teresa's Pick:

Rowan.... I WANT ROWAN!

Nicole's Pick:

Aiden would go to hell and back for the people he loves... literally.

A book you intentionally spoiled for yourself.

Teresa's Pick:

I don't intentionally spoil books for myself, but I did accidentally get spoiled on this one so I guess that counts.

Nicole's Pick:

I refused to read this book unless I KNEW my favorite characters would survive.

A book you wish you could make everyone read because you loved it so much.

Teresa's Pick:

I love this book. I love Lucas. And I also think this is an important book.

Nicole's Pick:

I loved this enough that I want others to read it but not enough that I'm not willing to share it.

A book or series you wish never ended.

Teresa's Pick:

I think this is an appropriate pick. I wish I could catch up with everyone from Hogwarts again.

Nicole's Pick:

No such thing as too much Tod.

A book with an uplifting ending or message.

Teresa's Pick:

This one hurt and has many dark moments but it also had a great message about overcoming those difficulties and finding the place (or garage) you are meant to be.

Nicole's Pick:

I don't read many happy books, and even though that one had a lot of sad moments, Charlie was able to overcome any obstacle in his way with the help of his friends.

A book you wish you could forget you ever read.

Teresa's Pick:

This book was a mess and made me cranky.

Nicole's Pick:

I liked the beginning of this series but really wish I never wasted my time starting them. I hated what the series became.

An author whose books always get you out of a slump.

Teresa and Nicole's Pick:

We both love JLA and know that no matter what genre, her books will always be addictive.

A swoon-worthy hero or heroine.

Teresa's Pick:

Do you have some time? Because I could write you pages and pages of my favorite heroes, but I decided to go with a recent one for me. Bones is a recent obsession of mine and I adored him.

Nicole's Pick:

There is a reason this is my absolute favorite series and that is all because of Tod.

A book that caused you to stop doing all other things until you finished it.

Teresa's Pick:

I devoured this book. I only stopped for a few hours because I had to get some sleep.

Nicole's Pick:

I could keep putting Tod and Roth for every answer, but this was the first book that truly made me love reading and took over my life.

A book that was painful to read (for whatever reason) or broke you.

Teresa's Pick:

This book was brutal and the characters go through so many horrible situations but it is also a really great read.

Nicole's Pick:

Every time you thought there was a chance for something good, he ripped your heart out again.

A book that had you laughing out loud.

Teresa's Pick:

I don't read many comedies but I love Cole and his train of thought always cracks me up.

Nicole's Pick:

I don't really read funny books, but I thought Hunter as a character was very funny.

A book that made you want to send it (or your e-reader) flying.

Teresa's Pick:

That final novella... I reject that ending and I wish it could have been different. Loved the book of course though.

Nicole's Pick:

That frustrating ending actually made me throw the book.

Bookish world you wish you could visit.

Teresa and Nicole's Pick:

Is there really another world we can pick here? I mean... they have Butterbeer.

A book with a shocking twist or ending.

Teresa and Nicole's Pick:

The last chapter was a mind f*ck and left us grabbing for the next book.

A character death that destroyed you.
**spoilers obviously**

Teresa's Pick:

Sirius... I am still not over this one and I don't think I will ever get over it.

Nicole's Pick:

There were so many deaths in this book that I thought nothing could shock me, but losing Fred was heartbreaking.

Best series conclusion.

Teresa and Nicole's Pick:

This ending was bittersweet but we loved it.

That was fun and we had a great time picking books.

I am going to tag my fellow Potterheads Magen of Corrie The Book Crazed Girl, Mckenzie of A Belle's Tales, and anyone else who wants to join in!
