"In this dazzling and long-awaited conclusion to the acclaimed Mortal Instruments series, Clary and her friends fight the greatest evil they have ever faced: Clary's own brother.

Sebastian Morgenstern is on the move, systematically turning Shadowhunter against Shadowhunter. Bearing the Infernal Cup, he transforms Shadowhunters into creatures out of nightmare, tearing apart families and lovers as the ranks of his Endarkened army swell.

The embattled Shadowhunters withdraw to Idris - but not even the famed demon towers of Alicante can keep Sebastian at bay. And with the Nephilim trapped in Idris, who will guard the world against demons?

When one of the greatest betrayals the Nephilim have ever known is revealed, Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Simon, and Alec must flee - even if their journey takes them deep into the demon realms, where no Shadowhunter has set foot before, and from which no human being has ever returned...

Love will be sacrificed and lives lost in the terrible battle for the fate of the word in the thrilling final installment of the classic urban fantasy series The Mortal Instruments!"

Nicole Speaks:

The Mortal Instruments series was hard for me to get through, but I knew I had to read the last book of the series. I really enjoyed the first three, then Clary's character started to annoy me these last few books, but there were characters that I simply adored and they made these very long books worth it.

Even though Clary really got under my skin sometimes I had to keep reading for two characters, Izzy and Alec. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE ALEC AND MAGNUS! And Izzy has been my favorite character since the very beginning. She is so strong and brave and overcomes any obstacle in her path. She is incredible and even though she does love Simon, she realizes there's more to life than him. Simon and Izzy's relationship was one of my favorites and **spoiler**when she had to accept that he was going to completely forget her and everyone else in the shadow hunter world I was heartbroken. Izzy didn't deserve to lose Simon after everything else she had lost. Magnus was always one of my favorites, but I loved him even more when he was able to come up with some sort of solution to bring him back into Clary and Izzy's life. Sure, it wasn't a perfect answer, but it was definitely better than the alternative. **end of spoiler**

If it wasn't for them I don't know if I would've loved this series as much. That's part of the reason I couldn't get through this final book at first. I just wanted Alec and Magnus to make up and I was horrified that one of them would die, or worse, that Izzy would die. Every page I hoped all my favorite couples would overcome all these demons and evil obstacles and just work it all out, but just like in any other book, it's never that simple.

I really liked the new character Emma and I genuinely enjoyed her chapters, but I kept questioning exactly how necessary it was to introduce her in this series. I felt like it wasn't that important to the plot and she did not need to be such a big character. With a 700-page book, I felt like it was just unnecessary extra pages to make you interested in her next series. Even though I don't know if it should've been in the book, it clearly worked at catching my attention, because now I want to know what happens with her.

For me, this series was really difficult to get through. I felt like some chapters I couldn't stop reading and zoomed through, but others felt like they dragged on and took forever. Regardless, all of it was worth it to see Alec end up with someone who he could love unconditionally and for Magnus to be with someone he could be completely honest with about his past. And despite the journey they have ahead of them, that Izzy and Simon will be able to be together again. As far as Clary and Jace, well I never expected anything less than a happily ever after.

  1. I had a LOT of ups and downs with this series too and I have yet to read this here final book^^ so naturally, I was curious to read your review. I feel like I might have outgrown the series to be honest, but since I've read the previous five books, I kind of need to see it though, you know?! I don't know if I like the fact the CC introduces a new character from her next series here and gives her so much page-time but I guess I'll have to read it and see if it works for me :) Lovely review Nicole!
