"Since she'd been on the outside, she'd survived an Aether storm, she'd had a knife held to her throat, and she'd seen men murdered.

This was worse.

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland--known as The Death Shop--are slim. If the cannibals don't get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She's been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild--a savage--and her only hope of staying alive.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile--everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky."

My Thoughts:

This is so different from any dystopian I have ever read and I loved that so much. Sometimes I feel like all dystopias follow the same formula, which is why I got so burnt out on them, but this one stands out. I’m really glad I finally got around to this one.

Aria was a tough one for me at first. I struggled with her quite a bit. And I feel really bad about this because Aria has every reason to be scared and weak (for lack of a better word), she has literally grown up inside a bubble, but it still drove me crazy. I did appreciate how much she grew and really came into her own.

Perry is a man of few words, but his actions speak volumes. Again, I struggled with him in the beginning, but I really came to love him. He is quiet and strong and determined. He tries so hard to do what is right, which means sacrificing his own needs a lot of the time.

And then we have Roar and oh how I loved Roar! He is such a great character and I can’t wait for more of him.

The thing I loved the most about this book was the twists it delivered. I truly did not see them coming. I was listening to it on the bus and I gasped out loud numerous times. So many things I did not see coming. And the end! I want more!

Now I know this has been said numerous times by a lot of people, but the writing is absolutely gorgeous. So many beautiful passages to be found in this book.

Now I’m not going to lie. I struggled a lot with this narrator. I liked the story enough that I was able to look past this for the most part, but it did keep me from listening to this one in super long batches. I’m not sure what is was but she made Aria sound extra whiny. And yes, I realize Aria is scared for a good portion of the book, but I’m averse to whining so it was a struggle for me. Also, I didn’t like the voice she used for Perry. I wish they had used a male narrator for the Perry chapters. I was glad to see that the narrator changes for the next book because I was definitely not continuing this series on audio otherwise. I still might switch, but I like having the option of audio.

All in all, Under The Never Sky is a beautiful book that stands out in the genre. The romance is gorgeous and the characters truly grow on you and steal your heart. Such a good read.
