"“She’s beauty for my ashes. And I’m hope for her heartache.”—Cole Danzer.

I don’t know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I don’t know. I don’t know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each other’s shattered pieces and made a whole. If that is what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mine…ours is the greatest of them all."

My Thoughts:

On paper this book seems like your typical contemporary romance, but trust me when I tell you it is completely unprecedented and like nothing you have ever read before. This book will knock your socks off. The story is addictive, the characters are amazing, and the romance is heart melting.

Every single character in this book wormed their way into my heart. I adored Eden for her strength and how she loved her daughter above all else. My heart broke for Cole and I wanted to fix his broken pieces. And Emmy was an absolute sweetheart and you can’t help but love her. There is so much more I want to say about them but I am having trouble finding the right words.

Pocketful of Sand was so much more than I was expecting. Being that I love all of Michelle’s books, that is saying a lot. Just when you think you know where the story is going… guess again because you have no idea. It’s just soooooo good and you keep turning pages and then you turn one more page and the book smacks you in the face.

There isn’t much else I can say about this book without getting spoilery. Just know it is an absolutely wonderful and breathtaking story that will hook you from beginning to end. Michelle’s writing continues to get better and better and in this one her writing is simply gorgeous. There were so many beautiful passages with beautiful imagery.

All in all, Pocketful of Sand is a book I want to push on everyone. Just read it. You will not be disappointed.

  3. I did enjoy this one, as heartbreaking as it was. I am still a bit stunned by the ending and am not really sure what to make of it though.
