"Kara Marcus is desperate to forget the past and move on. But she can’t escape her choices—especially when she finds herself falling in love…

Since the first day she stepped into her childhood Southern Baptist church, two truths have been engrained in Kara Marcus’s head: sex before marriage is bad and murder is a sin. And that’s why Kara can never forgive herself for what she did at the age of sixteen.

Now, as second semester of freshman year comes to a close, Kara has stood by her high school boyfriend, Ethan. But as they seem to grow further and further apart every day, Kara realizes that she has feelings for someone else: Ethan’s roommate Colt.

Suddenly, Kara’s clear-cut world shifts out of focus, and she’s torn between what her head tells her is right and what her heart is desperately pushing her to do—even if it means committing another undeniable sin..."

My Thoughts:

This series is just so good guys. So so good. After reading Pieces of Olivia, I just knew that Kara had a story to tell and her story was a good one. If you read Pieces of Olivia and think you know Kara’s past, well there is much more to the story than we thought. Kara is living with the decisions of her past and it is abundantly clear she is struggling with moving on.

I loved Kara. She was incredibly strong, but in a quieter way. She perseveres and pushes on and she cares. She cares for others and looks to put others before herself. She is a good friend and because of all that she deserves a happy ending. Then we have Colt who is really just a ton of yum. But more than that, he is a truly good guy. He isn’t a bad boy or a player. He is real and exactly the kind of guy you would be lucky to find. He sees Kara better than anyone else ever did and he just gets her. Those two together simply work because of this. They see each other for who they really are. I also love that Colt doesn’t just walk in and fix Kara, cause life doesn’t work like that. Colt is a support for Kara and is someone she can talk to without judgment or fear of being rejected but he isn’t a cure all. Kara has to be the one to make the decision to move on from her past and I think that was a very important aspect.

The other thing I love about this book is the strong relationship between Kara and Olivia. I love that they are truly good friends and are always there for one another. Sure things are different now that Olivia is with Preston (*sigh*), but Kara and Olivia’s friendship is still strong. I always love when books portray a good strong female relationship because they are few and far between in the fictional world.

I also loved that Miles From Kara was about so much more than just romance. Yes it was a major part of the story, but it wasn’t the only thing going on. The most important aspect of the story was Kara and watching her grow up and deal with the demons from her past. This is what I love about New Adult. The characters are at the point in their life where they have to decide who they are going to become and we get to watch Kara decide who she wants to be. It’s not about Kara simply finding a yummy guy, it is about Kara growing up.

Miles From Kara was a great read and is New Adult done right. These characters get under your skin and into your heart. It delivers the swoon and the heartache and should not be missed.

P.S.- There is no cheating in this book. Thought that was important since I know that is a major turn off for many readers.
