"True love may mean certain death in a ghostly affair of risk and passion from New York Times bestselling duo Christina Lauren, authors of Beautiful Bastard. Tahereh Mafi, New York Times bestselling author of Shatter Me calls Sublime “a beautiful, haunting read".

When Lucy walks out of a frozen forest, wearing only a silk dress and sandals, she isn’t sure how she got there. But when she sees Colin, she knows for sure that she’s here for him.

Colin has never been captivated by a girl the way he is by Lucy. With each passing day their lives intertwine, and even as Lucy begins to remember more of her life—and her death—neither of them is willing to give up what they have, no matter how impossible it is. And when Colin finds a way to physically be with Lucy, taking himself to the brink of death where his reality and Lucy’s overlap, the joy of being together for those brief stolen moments drowns out everything in the outside world. But some lines weren’t meant to be crossed…"

My Thoughts:

I don’t know how to review this book, I really don’t. There were parts of it I enjoyed, but there was also a lot that made me scratch my head. Overall I just don’t think I got it. I just don’t get where the story was going or if there was even a point. Like I enjoyed reading along with Colin and Lucy, but I’m not entirely sure what I was supposed to get from the story and I have a lot of questions still. Being that this is a standalone, I don’t think I should still have as many questions as I do.

Colin and Lucy together are really quite sweet. It is a very good forbidden romance and I eat those up. But with that being said, I didn’t feel an overwhelming connection to either Lucy or Colin. Frankly, I thought Colin was a real idiot at times and I wanted to strangle him. I liked him and I liked Lucy but I can’t say I loved either one.

The world within Sublime is pretty interesting. It is creepy and a bit dark. There are ghosts all over the boarding school and clearly something has brought them there, but what? I still don’t know. I read the whole book, I think I deserve to know whys and how’s of the situation. I feel like there was so much potential here. The authors could have expanded so much on what was going on and why all this creepy stuff happened and why ghosts were coming back, but they didn’t and this was my biggest issue. I felt like I kept getting questions thrown at me but never any answers. I felt like the story didn’t have a real purpose and things just happened with no real end goal. Speaking of end… maybe I’m an idiot, but I just didn’t get it. Like at all. I’m confused.

Sublime was a read I was really looking forward to. The cover was so pretty and it sounded like such a good romantic and creepy story. Unfortunately it fell a bit short for me. I liked it and I don’t regret reading it, but I was hoping for more.

  1. It happens to me that I'm reading the book and then after finishing it I wonder what was all that for. It's bad when it happens. I have seen this one around but I haven't read any of Lauren's other books, so we'll see. Great review, Teresa :)

  2. Bummer this one didn't live up to your expectations! I hate when that happens! I don't like books that leave me more confused that I started! I do have this one for review, so I'll have to let you know if I'm in the same boat!

  3. Well that's a shame, was looking forward to this one myself but yea I am in the same both. Stand-alone's that leave me with tons of questions tend to frustrate me ;/ if you gonna write one, that's cool.. but cover it all? heh Then again, don't some series end and leave us with some unanswered questions as well ;/

  4. Sigh, I was so disappointed when I got declined for an arc, now I'm sort of glad because I think I wouldn't have been as nice as you were. That would royally piss me off, one whole book that's nothing but a tease. Nothing to explain or at least clue you in? I'll pass for now, I'll see if the next one is better. I hope what you're reading is way better than this.

  5. That does suck this one just wasn't what you were hoping for and that it fell short. I was hoping this one turned out to be a good read (if you don't like it, I'm almost positive I won't either). And confusing endings is something I would like to avoid.

    Loved your honesty review!

  8. This book made me feel stupid. Especially at the end. I just didn't get it. I reread the ending again last night, and I think she does go to the lake. I think that was their 'happy place'
Still, it was a dumb ending....

  9. Yours is only the second review I've read for this one...and I must say, I'm intrigued. Despite the lask of answers you mentioned which I'm sure would drive me CRAZY o.O That and the fact that the main characters failed to make you fall in love with them makes me think I'll hold off on this one...at least for a while. I'm glad you were able to enjoy some of it though :) Lovely review ^^ I hope your next read is/was much better!

  10. Aw, yeah I've been hearing a lot of mixed things about this book, which sucks because I had high hopes for it since I love CL's other books. I def think I'll pass on this one as I'm sure it'll end up being a "meh" book for me, if I even like it at all, and I just don't have the time for that!

This is an award free blog. I truly appreciate the thought but I simply do not have the time. Comments are an award all on their own =]
