"Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?"

My Thoughts:

This book is long and I mean LONG, yet when I closed the book all I wanted was more. Not once did I feel like this book was too long or too slow. I was absolutely enthralled and addicted with the story. I cannot really find the words to express how much I fell in love with this book. With each book in the series I fall more and more in love with it and it may just be my favorite high fantasy series to date.

Celaena. I have a girl crush on Celaena. She is such an incredible heroine and the growth we see from her in this novel is absolutely astounding. We start to learn that Celaena isn’t infallible and that the atrocities from her past do have an effect on her. We see her deal with everything that transpired in Crown of Midnight and we see her pain. But we also see Celaena evolve over the course of this book. She finally comes into her own. If you thought she was kickass before, it is nothing compared to what she is now. I somehow came to love her even more.

We also get to visit with some of our other favorites: namely Dorian and Choal. Their storylines made my heart hurt and I wanted to hug them both. I absolutely adore their bromance and love that despite their arguing they always have each other’s backs. I also like that their storylines are evolving outside of Celaena and that they are becoming their own players in the story.

Along with old favorites, we also get some new characters in Heir of Fire. One of these new characters has become my new favorite character of them all. I want to discuss this character so so badly because I just have so much love for this character, but I can’t because it’s kind of a spoiler. However, because I cannot contain myself completely I have to say something so I’m hiding it under a spoiler tag. Click below for spoilers.

Along with wonderful characters, Heir of Fire expands on this world I have come to love. I got to venture outside of Adarlan and see more of this world. Outside of Adarlan I was able to see magic and watching Celaena use her magic was awesome. The world is so dangerous and full of crazy monsters, but still somewhere I kinda want to go. It’s just everything I want in a high fantasy world but also so much more than that.

There is so much more I want to say but I don’t even know what else to pinpoint. I loved the pace and the slow burn. We truly watch Celaena train and grow. We got to see everything unfold slowly and then somehow it all pieced together in the end. And then the end! I got to it after reading close to 600 pages and I was still left begging for more. I could have kept reading because I just cannot get enough. I would like the next book now please.

Heir of Fire is a wonderful addition to the Throne of Glass series. This series continues to get better and better and I am looking forward to see where it is all leading. If you haven’t started this series yet, I highly recommend you get on that.

  1. They do have a nice bromance going on! Though I have only read the first book -- I'll get to the second one soon, I promise-- I just adored the characters and the storyline. I also can't wait to see what Celena goes through and how much she grows! That also includes Dorian and Choal!

I LOVED this review to pieces and it made me what to read the second book ASAP!!

  3. Man your review just perfectly summed up all my feels about HoF! Despite how long it was I STILL wanted MORE too! And the wait for book 4 seems like torture! I just want ALL the books to be out so I can know everything and then jump into a complete series re-read LOL xD

Anyways I so agree with your Celaena girl-crush: she was already one of my favorite heroines of all time and I didn't think I could love her more but with HoF I proved myself wrong! Her growth in this one wa so,so emotional but I loved every second of it. I adored the bits with Chaol and Dorian too - not to mention ROWAN (♥), Manon and Aedion! Exploring other parts of this world than Aderlan was amazing as well, I loved how it tied into more magic for Celaena. Man her skills were brilliant! Fantastic review, glad you loved this one as much as I did :D
