Blog Tour: Until We Fly (Beautifully Broken #4) by: Courtney Cole (Review and Giveaway)

Welcome to my stop on the Until We Fly blog tour hosted by Inkslinger PR. Today I have my review and a giveaway to share.

Release Date: July 7, 2014
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble
Source: I received a copy of this book as a part of the blog tour in exchange for a fair and honest review.
"Ex-Army Ranger, Brand Killien, has always been good.

A good friend, a good soldier, a good everything.

The problem is, good hasn’t gotten him anything but a crushed heart.

So after licking his wounds, he decides to move on. And moving on doesn’t include being good anymore.

Bad sounds so much better.

Jaded and detached, Brand is determined to never open himself up to anyone again. It’s not worth the pain. Instead, he becomes closed, hardened, aloof.

But then he’s called back home for a family emergency… a family that he is estranged from. A family that he put out of his mind a long time ago for very good reasons…reasons that involve secrets and pain. Reasons he tried hard to forget.

But home is where the heart is, and it just might be where Brand finds his again.

Why? Because home is where Nora Greene is. A fiery, red-headed spitfire, Nora is a thing from his past. A beautiful, feisty thing. When Brand left, she was away at boarding school.

But she’s back now.

And she wants Brand, scars and all."

My Thoughts:

Guys. I cannot even begin to explain to you how much I was anticipating this book. I wanted Brand to have a book from the moment I met him in If You Leave. He is just such a wonderful character and a great friend and I wanted him to get a happily ever after in the worst way. This became even more true in Before We Fall. After that book I just knew he deserved a happily ever after. Until We Fly was everything I was hoping it would be and more. It was a fantastic addition to the series. It is a very close second to If You Leave for me (and if you know me you know the love I possess for that book knows no bounds).

If I didn’t love Brand already I would seriously love him now. Next to Gabe, Brand is easily my favorite guy of the series. For me those two are just head and shoulders above Pax and Dom. Brand is just such a great guy. He is truly truly great and good. I never realized how crappy his upbringing was and the fact that he turned out so good in spite of that is beautiful. He is strong and resilient and just wonderful. I know a lot of people were surprised and kind of upset when Before We Fall was about Jacey but Jacey with someone who wasn’t Brand. Personally I was happy about that. I didn’t think Jacey deserved Brand. Brand is too good and deserves someone who wouldn’t continually use him as a crutch.

As much as I loved Brand, I also loved Nora. That girl. My gosh. She broke my heart. I loved her and I admired her bravery. That girl saw something she wanted and damn if she let anything stop her from getting it. From the outside it looks like her world is perfect, but looks can be deceiving. Nora has had a very rough upbringing and I wanted her to find her way out of the darkness.

Initially it seems like Brand and Nora come from two different worlds and have absolutely nothing in common, but that could not be further from the truth. They both have terrible families. Seriously both of their families are horrendous. So horrendous that I don’t even have words to fully express it. Some of what I read made me sick to my stomach and liquor was needed on my end after reading some of it. Brand and Nora needed each other in so many ways. They were truly able to understand one another and help each other grow. I loved their relationship because of this. They were really great together.

What I loved about this book and about this series in general is that the happy endings are always earned. Nothing is ever easy for these characters and they have to go through some truly tough times to get to the happier times. For me it just makes the happily ever after that much sweeter and so much better. It’s real and tough and gritty and dark but it’s also beautiful. Because something before we fall, we fly.

Until We Fly was a fantastic read and if you are a fan of this series you do not want to miss this book. It is absolutely heartbreaking and it really hurts but it is also a wonderful read.

About The Author:

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.
Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.

  1. I saw this series around but I'm not getting back to NA any time soon. Still I'm so glad you enjoyed this one and that Brand got his own book. Great review, Teresa :)

  5. I think healing and redemption are two of my favorite themes...especially in NA.

Teresa, I have If You Stay on my ereader and I'm even more anxious to start the series now. Brand sounds amazing - I love that he proves you can be a good person even if your upbringing didn't necessarily give you the tools. And Nora seems like his perfect match! Great review!!
