Blog Tour: Beautiful Oblivion (Maddox Brothers #1) by: Jamie McGuire (Review and Giveaway)

Welcome to my stop on the Beautiful Oblivion blog tour. Today I have my review and a giveaway to share.

Release Date: July 1, 2014
from Atria Books
Goodreads | Amazon
Source: I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
"The Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series.

Fiercely independent Camille "Cami" Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.

Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.

As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush of reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again."

My Thoughts:

I loved this book so much more than I thought I would. For reasons I can’t even explain to myself I was a bit wary going into Beautiful Oblivion. I just loved Beautiful Disaster so much and I didn’t want to see this whole fictional world ruined with another book. I honestly never in a million years though I would say this, but I liked Beautiful Oblivion so much more than Beautiful Disaster.

I’m jumping right into Trent because he was a major part of why I loved Beautiful Oblivion more. Simply put, I fell madly in love with Trent. I loved him so much more than I loved Travis (another thing I never in a million years thought I would be adding to this review). Trent had me laughing out loud, which is probably what made me fall in love with him. He was hysterical and so so witty and his remarks were just perfect. He is not perfect and he makes mistakes but that is what makes him real. Of course he is a bit hot headed, but he is a Maddox boy so it’s to be expected. But he never went to the extremes that Travis did, he was a bit calmer in that respect. Just everything that combined to make Trent the person that he is made me fall in love.

And now for the next reason why I adored this book, Cami was fantastic. Did I get frustrated with her? Yes, at times but I always liked her and I couldn’t fault her for her decisions. Also the secret she is keeping? Well it’s a doozie and it makes perfect sense why she had the doubts she had regarding it. My gosh. I’m not gonna lie, I guessed the twist (which was a tad frustrating) but I was still hooked and engaged and my stomach was sick waiting for the other shoe to drop. I also loved Cami because she became such a strong and wonderful woman despite her craptastic upbringing. Her family is a giant piece of crap and I wanted to reach inside the book and cause physical harm to them all. I’m very glad Trent was there to handle these situations on my behalf.

Let’s see, what else did I love? I loved the relationship between Trent and Cami. It was so sweet but also so hot. I loved that they were best friends first and I loved their interactions. I loved that when Trent had a dumb moment Cami called him on it and they made it work.  They fought through their problems and then they fixed it. The end. I also loved the twist and thought it was absolutely brilliant. It was just the perfect touch. I loved Olivia. She was adorable. I loved the secondary characters. Raegan and Kody in particular were wonderful. And last but not least I loved that the story ran concurrent to the timeline in Beautiful Disaster. This was something I wasn’t sure I was going to like. I worried about having to watch the Abby/Travis drama again but I actually really liked it. It was interesting to see them from an outside perspective. My heart broke for Travis all over again. He was really broken up over Abby. That girl really did a number on his heart. And I’m not going to lie I had a total swoon moment when we recapped a certain Valentine’s party scene. So yeah. Lots of love going on.

So in case you didn’t notice, I absolutely loved Beautiful Oblivion. It is a wonderful start to the Maddox Brothers series and if the rest of the brothers have stories half as good as this one it will be my absolute pleasure to read it. Beautiful Oblivion is a wonderful story full of swoon, drama, fighting, choices, love, friendship, secrets, family, and romance.
