Book Review: Beautiful Ink (Forever Inked #1) by: Nicole Reed

Release Date: April 27, 2014
Goodreads | Amazon
Source: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I have tattooed that single word on more skin than I care to count. It elicits powerful thoughts and emotions for most people.

But not for me. The word family means so much more.

You can’t run forever from the ones who love you.

NOTE: This novel is not a cliffhanger and can be read as a standalone.

WARNING: This book is real, beautifully raw, and not for the faint of heart. It is the story of a young girl’s loss of innocence while growing up around a motorcycle club. It is not suitable for children under the age of seventeen due to language, sexual content, and intense subject matter. Based on true events."

My Thoughts:

I have read every Nicole Reed book to date and have immensely enjoyed each and every one. However, none of them ever surpassed the love I had for her first book Ruining Me. Well that day has come. Beautiful Ink is Nicole’s best book to date. It is an incredible read and I absolutely adored it. Like, I’m not even sure what I want to say because I loved it so much.

Keller is an awesome heroine. Like, I have a bit of a girl crush on her. She is just so incredibly strong and nobody should have had to go through what she went through. Her story broke my heart, but the way she persevered made me admire her. She is an incredibly talented tattoo artist and she wears her painful past on her skin. She is not your typical heroine and I love her all the more for that.

Then we have Vin, and be still my heart, I loved Vin. I just loved everything about him. He was so good with Keller. He knew she had a past that she didn’t want to discuss, but he didn’t care. He just wanted her for who she was at that moment. It was beautiful and together they were beautiful. Keller opened up to him in a way she had never been able to before. Then there was Holder, who is an interesting character. He shows his love in a very different way. I may not always agree with his actions, actually I rarely agreed with them, but one thing that was obvious is that he loved her. And now I want to stress before everyone starts freaking out: this is NOT a love triangle.

This book is dark and very emotional. It is not pretty and there were moment that made me cringe, but I loved it all the same. The world Keller grows up in is dark and some of what she went through is tough to read. This is not a hearts and flowers read, but it is so much better because of that.

One of my favorite things about this story is the way in which it is told. It is told in alternating time periods. We go back and forth between the present and Keller’s childhood. It really allows the reader to understand how Keller has been so closed off and instead of just being told about her past, we get to experience it. Beautiful Ink also delivers the twists and turns. I knew something was coming and I sorta guessed, but it still crushed me. I love when a story delivers the twists and turns and keeps me on edge.

Beautiful Ink was an incredible journey and I seriously hope we get more from this world. I loved the story and the world and simply everything about it. It is a dark and gritty read, but it is also amazing.

  1. I remember how much you loved Reed's books, so this praise is really attention-grabbing. I will definitely keep Beautiful Ink in mind!

  2. Keller being so strong despite all she went through def makes her sound like a character that I would root for and love to read about

  3. I haven't heard of this author or this book, but I really like that cover. I like the sound of Keller, for sure. I'll add this to the list!

  4. I am SO excited to start this book -- between that amazing synopsis and those gushy texts I received while you were reading this, it is HIGH on my list! I love the fact that it can be read as a stand-alone and that it is dark and emotional, and the twists and turns have me deliciously excited! Beautiful review that really expresses your love for this story! *tackle hugs*

  5. I do love the sound of Keller (though not a fan of the name... reminds to too much of my cousin..... whose a guy hahahaha), but I love strong females and she sounds like one! YES! For no love triangles! Hahaha Thank you for that! I just can't... no triangles please... :D I love the sound of this book and I must check it out!

    Amazing review you awesome person!

  6. Haha girl crush! That's awesome! I love that she's not your typical heroine too. I am always on the lookout for some new, more realistic ones. I will put this on my TBR for the summer, as I can't really do emotional, gritty books during school time I've discovered. LOL. Awesome review lovely. I'm really glad this blew you away.

  7. Hmm, you know I love my dark reads, Teresa. Especially when there's a journey to be had. I too LOVED Ruin Me and I'm quite looking forward to reading Beautiful Ink. Lovely review, girl!
