"Taylor Sullivan took her life for granted until she received news that would change her life forever. In a state
of denial she met Kyle, who didn’t end up being what she expected. She wasn’t able to escape her new
reality, but with his friendship, just maybe she could survive it."

My Thoughts:

I’m a bit torn as to what I want to say about this book. I feel like this story had so much potential, but there is something about it that keeps it from getting there. I liked the story as a whole and there was a lot about it I did enjoy, but there were also some things that bugged me.

Taylor is our main character whose world gets turned upside down. We meet Taylor right after her world is torn apart. She goes from having the perfect life to not knowing what is going to come next. I cannot even imagine going through what Taylor has to go through. Our other main character is Kyle and I definitely liked Kyle a lot. He is very sweet and is there for Taylor when she really needs someone.

This story was a very very quick read. Normally that is something I enjoy, but in this case I think it was a bit too quick. I just felt like everything happened so fast! Something would happen and then a few chapters later it’s all resolved. Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment, but I like to see the conflict fully play out before it’s resolved. Also, I had some issues with some of the secondary characters. Austin for one really got under my skin. Austin is Taylor’s boyfriend and I really think he wasn’t necessary to the story. I felt like he existed just to make Kyle look awesome and I think Kyle would have looked awesome without Austin’s help.

I think my other problem is that I’m too old for this book. Some of the drama seemed very young for me. I may be young at heart and I do love my drama, but I have my limits and this book stretched those limits at times. Some of the drama had me cringing and just left me exasperated.

With all of that being said though, I did like the story. I thought Kyle was a sweetheart and the message in this story is a great one. It was a sweet read and I liked watching the innocent relationship between Kyle and Taylor grows. I don’t really know what else to say, but there was definitely something to the story.

Rain is a good read and one I think will appeal to the younger spectrum of YA readers. It’s the perfect amount of sweet, drama, romance, and heartache for that age group.

  1. I'm thinking I'll pass. I like YA books and I live in a YA world at school but I'm over some of the drama. Great review.

  2. Great review, Teresa. I'm happy you mentioned the book seeming like a younger YA read. While sometimes that's okay with me, if it bothered you, it definitely will bother me since I'm, like, 20 years older than you. ;)

  3. That's why I rarely read YA anymore, not that it's bad but I've matured LOL

  4. I'm not sure if I'll be picking this one up, it does sound good, but what you said about the pacing and how this one is more a younger YA read, has me debating on it. Pacing is a big thing for me, so it being a bit too fast would definitely bug me.

    BUT amazing review!! :D

    *muggle huggles*

  5. Sorry Rain didn't work out for you. I've had issues with a lot of YA abs finally decided to move on. Thanks for the helpful review!

  6. Thank you for the honest review! Pacing was something I was concerned about, but I also didn't want to add unnecessary scenes. I will definitely keep your thoughts and feelings in mind to make the next book stronger. Thank you for being a part of the blog tour and also sharing your playlist!

  7. Oh my! Jessie McCartney! I had a huge crush on that guy like 10 years ago! :D LOL Funny times. Anyhow this book sounds good but like for Jessie crush I think I'm a bit too old for it. Great review, Teresa :)

  8. Sorry this one didn't quite work for you Teresa! A few YA's I've read lately have felt a little too young for me too. Unless it's mature YA, I'm kinda not feeling it. I do love that playlist though! How We Lived is a bit fast too, so I hope that doesn't make you dislike that one. You'll have to let me know.

  9. ah I have been there before, when a book sounds too young for me and the drama kind of leaves me all frazzled and emotionally wary in a very bad way.

  10. Such an awesome playlist!! This is a lovely and informative review. I'm glad that you liked the story for the most part, and I agree about Kyle -- he was such a sweetie. Thanks so much for sharing those songs! *smoosh*
