Release Date: June 3, 2014 from NAL
Goodreads | Amazon
Source: I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
"MUSIC HAS THE POWER TO HEAL ALL…BUT NOT ALL BROKEN HEARTS CAN BE MENDED.

Always in control, Xander Wilde considered life on the road to be a perfect fit for him. But when disaster strikes on the Wilde Ones’ latest tour, fate intervenes…and a newly single Ivy Taylor, the only girl he has ever loved, steps back into his life.

After moving past her painful breakup with Xander years ago, Ivy was poised to become the next big name in pop music…when suddenly she withdrew from the limelight—the same day she announced her engagement to her controlling agent, Damon Wolf.

Xander knows he should keep his distance. But once they’re on the road, he can’t resist pursuing her for a second chance. Yet a jealous Damon can’t let her go—and he’s keeping dangerous secrets that could destroy them all.

When the three of them come together, everything falls apart. But if Xander and Ivy can hold tight to the bond that connects them, they just might have a chance at reclaiming the powerful love they thought they had lost forever...."

My Thoughts:

Mended was a great addition to the Connections series. Xander and Ivy had a wonderful story and that story needed to be told. This book was nothing like I expected. I went into the story thinking I kinda knew the route the story would go, but nothing happened the way I expected and I kinda loved that about the story.

Xander and I got off to a bit of a rough start and while I warmed up to him, I never really loved him. He was just too controlling for me and he bothered me with the way he treated River at times, so I was worried how I would react to a story with him as the main character. I really shouldn’t have worried because I fell in love with Xander. He hasn’t had it easy and he has been blaming himself for a lot of years for something that was not his fault and something like that takes a toll on you. The only girl he ever loved was Ivy and life happened and their relationship didn’t work. So, Xander has had it rough and once I got to know him, my heart broke for him. I came to really love him. It’s so beautiful how he has loved Ivy for years and never truly moved on. For him there was only ever one girl and she was it. So years later, when he runs into her it’s not really easy. I can’t really express how much I loved Xander in this one. His protectiveness and charm and determination were all sigh worthy.

Ivy was the tougher of the two for me. I liked her, but at times I was frustrated with her, but at the same time I also get it. She was convinced of certain things and because of that, she just wasn’t willing to open her heart to Xander again and I can’t say I blame her. My issues were more around her willingness to let people walk all over her. I just wanted her to stand up for herself a bit more. The way she let some characters treat her made me really mad but at the same time I totally got it. But because of this, I’m glad the perspective was more Xander heavy.

Mended knows how to build up the anticipation. The chemistry between Ivy and Xander just builds and builds and builds until you don’t think you will be able to handle it anymore. I actually almost reached my limit. I swear; if a certain very important conversation between Ivy and Xander that needed to take place was interrupted one more time, I was going to chuck my iPad across the room. Thankfully no iPads were harmed in the reading of this book. When that conversation finally took place, it was like BAM and I was all YESS NOW DO THE KISSY.

I also love that this book completely shocked me. There was one event that took me completely by surprise and it made me furious (in a good way). I was heartbroken and hurt and it made me feel all the things. And then on top of that twist, there was another one that had me thinking my brain would explode. So just when you think you have a handle on the story it just surprises you all over again.

One of my favorite things about companion novels is getting to revisit some of my favorite characters. River and Dahlia pop in to say hi, as does Aerie and Bell. I could have used a bit more Jagger, but hopefully he will pop up some more in later books. I just love that I get to watch these characters continue on with their lives even though it’s not their story.

Mended was a great addition and one fans of the series should definitely make time for. Xander will steal your heart, break it into pieces, but then he will mend it in the end.

  2. I don't think I'll be reading this series, not exactly my thing. Great review though and way to balance the plus and minuses even if this didn't work out for you.

  5. Wonderful review, Wifey! I love when a story turns out to be completely different than I thought going in! Even with the frustration over the characters, this sounds like it was a great installment in the series.
