Nicole Speaks: Slammed Series by: Colleen Hoover

Every now and then my sister drops by the blog to join me in my book rambling and share her thoughts. If you want to know more about Nicole, click here.

Slammed:"Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she's losing hope.
Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.
Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart." Goodreads

Point of Retreat:
"Hardships and heartache brought them together…now it will tear them apart.
Layken and Will have proved their love can get them through anything; until someone from Will’s past re-emerges, leaving Layken questioning the very foundation on which their relationship was built. Will is forced to face the ultimate challenge…how to prove his love for a girl who refuses to stop ‘carving pumpkins.’" Goodreads

This Girl:
"There are two sides to every love story. Now hear Will’s.
Colleen Hoover’s New York Times bestselling Slammed series has brought countless readers to their knees with a whirlwind of love, passion, and heartache.
Layken and Will’s love has managed to withstand the toughest of circumstances and the young lovers, now married, are beginning to feel safe and secure in their union. As much as Layken relishes their new life together, she finds herself wanting to know everything there is to know about her husband, even though Will makes it clear he prefers to keep the painful memories of the past where they belong. Still, he can’t resist his wife’s pleas and so he begins to untangle his side of the story, revealing for the first time his most intimate feelings and thoughts, retelling both the good and bad moments, and sharing a few shocking confessions of his own from the time when they first met.
In This Girl, Will tells the story of their complicated relationship from his point of view. Their future rests on how well they deal with the past in this final installment of the beloved Slammed series." Goodreads

Nicole Speaks:
SLAMMED:
Let me just say that the second I started reading these books I couldn’t stop. It was my first week back to school after Christmas break and all I could think about was Will and Lake! I decided to read the first one because when I read the summary and saw there was a guy Will in it I decided since I always seem to love characters named Will, well what would make this one any different? And just like always, Will didn’t let me down.  “You keep your ocean, I’ll take the Lake.”  I mean really how was I supposed to resist!?  As soon as Lake met Will in Slammed I fell in love just like she did, but I knew it was too good to be true.  There was no way this perfect boy who felt the same way she did was going to come that easily, and boy was I right! AS SOON AS SHE SAW HIM IN THE HALLWAY MY HEART BROKE! I knew the second she wrapped her arms around him he wasn’t just another student in the halls and I couldn’t take it!  They were too perfect from the start and I knew this was going to happen.  As soon as they were torn apart from each other I kept trying to think of ways this could end with them together and I just didn’t understand how this could ever work out.  A teacher!? With his student!? No that’s not okay, but with Will and Lake!? Well with Will and Lake it was more than alright. It had to happen!  They were both so troubled and they needed each other.  I think what was the most heartbreaking part about this little love story was the fact that they both knew they needed to be together no matter how wrong it was.  In a lot of stories either the girl or the boy thinks that not being together is right and one of them tries to give up, but this wasn’t like that! Will and Lake knew they needed each other they just couldn’t figure how to make it happen.  Despite all the troubles they go through, with each other, their friends, their brothers, and even Lake’s mom, I knew they needed to work things out, and that was why this book kept me reading until the very last page.  This is one of the best books I have read in so long! Will and Lake are one of my favorite couples that I knew needed to be together no matter the circumstances!

POINT OF RETREAT:
I loved reading from Will’s point of view and I am so glad that this book was from his point of view.  I know that if I would’ve experienced their huge fight from Lake’s point of view I would’ve been upset at her and would’ve wanted her  to get over it, shut up and believe everything he was saying.  I mean, I guess I kind of understand why she was doubting everything, but at the same time if this book would’ve been from her point of view I probably would’ve gotten annoyed at her, and why would I want to be annoyed at Lake!  Getting to see how Will was planning to get her back was perfect.  No matter what he was not going to give up on her.  He even recruits the help of some much younger friends.  It was brilliant and great and this book really only made me love their relationship even more.  This book was a million times more upsetting, with their huge fight, their situation regarding Lake’s mom, and one of the most heartbreaking plot twists I have read in a while (maybe just because of how much I love both of them), but I still loved every moment.  I loved that together they can overcome even the worst of times.

THIS GIRL:
The best parts of the first two books mixed into one!  The incredible story of the first book and from Will’s point of view was almost too good to believe.  I really liked that Hoover didn’t just repeat the story from a different point of view, but she included different stories from that time as well as the major points of their relationship.  I also really really really liked the parts where Will and Lake are in the hotel and he is telling her these stories.  The contrast between where they are now and where they were in the first book really shows how much the two of them have overcome and despite all of their issues it was all completely worth it.  I don’t have a lot to say except I want everyone to read this book and at the same time I want to keep it all to myself!  This entire series was great and I am so glad I picked it up and sped through the story of Will and his Lake.
