"A modern day thrill ride, where a teen girl and her animal companion must participate in a breathtaking race to save her brother's life—and her own.
Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she's helpless to change anything.

Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.

The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?"

My Thoughts:

This book was a crazy ride! It is action from beginning to end and it really gets your adrenaline pumping. I found Tella to be a fun, yet tough heroine. It has a sort of The Hunger Games feel to it, but it is very much its own book with its own story line and characters.

Tella is one of my favorite kind of heroines. She is what I would call a sleeper heroine; in that her strength isn’t always seen by others but it is very much there. She is determined and wants to save her brother. She does things she thought she would never have to do and she just sucks it up. What I really liked about Tella though is that she reacted to the situation realistically. She freaks out a bit and has moments where she can’t believe this is happening to her. Honestly though, how would you react to this situation? I am sure there would be some fear and disbelief associated with it. I also liked that she was fun. She has a bit of a quirky train of thought at times and I appreciated that.

Our love interest is Guy and well he is a mystery. But don’t we all love some mystery? I liked Guy and it is clear he is ready for this challenge. It’s pretty clear from the start that there is much more to Guy than meets the eye. I personally enjoyed uncovering his secrets.

Also I want a Pandora! They are the coolest and added such a great element to the story. It’s an element I really haven’t seen anywhere else and I love the originality that it brought. The whole concept for this story is intriguing really. It’s a race across a bunch of terrains and a race where there are no rules. I also give props to Victoria for not shying away from the more gruesome aspects because in a race like this with no rules, where the prize is the life of a loved one, you know there will not be rainbows and butterflies and that people will fight dirty.

All in all, Fire and Flood is an action packed and fast paced read. Definitely one I recommend to those who enjoy fast paced and adrenaline pumping reads.
