"One simple lesson in seduction between two friends can turn into so much more…

Despite her outgoing demeanor, Olivia is painfully insecure around the opposite sex—usually, she can’t get up the nerve to approach guys she’s interested in. But moving to Edinburgh has given her a new start, and, after she develops a crush on a sexy postgrad, she decides it’s time to push past her fears and go after what she wants.

Nate Sawyer is a gorgeous player who never commits, but to his close friends, he’s as loyal as they come. So when Olivia turns to him with her relationship woes, he offers to instruct her in the art of flirting and to help her become more sexually confident.

The friendly education in seduction soon grows into an intense and hot romance. But then Nate’s past and commitment issues rear their ugly heads, and Olivia is left broken-hearted. When Nate realizes he’s made the biggest mistake of his life, he will have to work harder than he ever has before to entice his best friend into falling back in love with him—or he may lose her forever…"

My Thoughts:

Will there ever come a day when I don’t love a Samantha Young book? The answer to that question remains to be seen because it hasn’t happened yet. Before Jamaica Lane was another fantastic addition to this series. This is easily one of my favorite series and with each addition that fact is just cemented more and more.

Olivia was a heroine I took an immediate liking to. She is insecure and inexperienced but still strong and smart and witty. I loved her comebacks and snarky responses. I loved that deep inside she was a geek and she embraced that inner geek. That is something I could definitely relate to. I wish she hadn’t been so stubborn, but in the end I think it was a good thing for her and Nate.

I’m just gonna say it: Nate is incredible. He is so funny and sweet and you will fall hard for him. He sees a beautiful woman in Olivia and he makes her see it as well. He is funny and charming and has adorable dimples. Nate has had a tough past and it has shaped the man he has become. I loved watching Olivia slowly break down his walls.

Nate and Olivia play a very dangerous game and you know from the beginning that it is going to blow up in their faces sooner or later. Nate is helping Olivia gain confidence and experience. What neither of them realize is that these “lessons” may bring suppressed feelings to the surface; feelings on both sides. Nate doesn’t see it, but Olivia can help him as much as he is helping her.

I am a big fan of the best friends to lover’s trope, so naturally when Samantha tackled it, I absolutely adored it. The relationship between Nate and Olivia was really beautiful. They knew each other’s flaws and faults, they knew each other better than anyone else and because of that their relationship is gorgeous. They can be comfortable with one another from the beginning and I feel like their relationship is deeper because of that.

Of course I loved seeing my favorite characters again. Joss, Braden *swoons*, Jo, Cam, Ellie, Adam, Cole, and Hannah. I love seeing how their lives are progressing and catching up with them again. I’m also really really excited for Hannah and Marco’s story now. There is definitely an epic love story there to be told.

As expected, Samantha delivered a wonderful novel in Before Jamaica Lane. It was steamy, sexy, swoony, sweet, and heartbreaking. Everything I have come to expect from Samantha, but it still managed to surprise me. Another one I highly recommend.

  1. Ohmygoood, NATE! I love him to death. I can't get enough of him. His parents are also wonderful! Nate and Olivia combined = hilarious. I also loved the part where it shows an outside perspective of the few things that happened in Castle Hill - Joss and Braden! ;)

The friends to lovers trop is one of my favs as well, and it's always fu when you get to have the other characters from previous books in a series reappear!
