Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Before We Fall by Courtney Cole hosted by Inkslinger PR. For my stop I have my review and I also had the opportunity to interview Dominic!!! Make sure you check out the giveaway below as well.

Release Date: December 3, 2013 from Forever

Source: I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

"Sometimes, one dark moment is all it takes to turn your world black...

For 24-year old Dominic Kinkaide, that moment took place on the night of his high school graduation. One dark incident changed him forever. He's a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn't care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.

23-year old Jacey Vincent doesn't realize how much her father's indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn't one specific moment that wrecks a person, but rather it's an absence of moments. She's like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other... to fill the void that her father left in her.

Until she meets Dominic.

After jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, his secret and her issues create a dark and damaged energy that will soon turn their attraction to each other into an explosive storm.

Even though when the clouds have cleared and the dust has settled, both of them are almost obliterated... they've learned a priceless lesson.

Sometimes, before we fall... we fly."

My Thoughts:

This series has always focused on dark and broken characters, but I would definitely say this was the darkest of them all. Dominic is seriously broken and the baddest boy we have been introduced to yet. It will keep you guessing from page one and dying to know what caused Dominic to spiral downward the way he did. I can’t say this is my favorite of the series, because that will always belong to If You Leave and Gabe, but this was definitely a great addition to the series.

Jacey was not what I was expecting at all. She honestly surprised me. I wasn’t her biggest fan in If You Leave, but this is Courtney Cole so I went in with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. We meet Jacey after she has dealt with a lot of her issues and has started to move past the incident in If You Leave. She hasn’t fully recovered and her insecurities are still there, but she has come a long long way. I really liked the Jacey I met in Before We Fall. She was tough and feisty and determined to move on. She didn’t want to let anyone walk all over her anymore and she is exactly what Dominic needed.

Dominic was the tougher of the two for me. I actually didn’t like him right off the bat. I saw a guy that I really really wanted to like, but I didn’t fully like him right away, not like with Gabe and Pax. Dominic is very different from those two. You pull his layers apart piece by piece excruciatingly slowly. It takes a while to get to know him, but once I did I really really liked what I saw. When I finally discovered his past, my heart shattered. It was very easy to understand how he could think the way he did. He has no faith or belief in himself and he thinks he deserves nothing good, which just made my heart hurt. It is very hard to see at first, but Dominic is a great guy under the facade he puts up.

Also this is the moment where I put in an official request for Brand to get a book! Gosh I absolutely loved him. We really don’t see much of him, but I loved him. He is such a good guy and is always there when Jacey needs him. So yeah I love him and want more of him.

Jacey and Dominic together make a great couple. They were exactly what each other needed. Jacey needed someone who wouldn’t destroy her. Dominic needed someone to show him that it is okay to let people in. The chemistry between the two is hot and this book delivers the steam.

Before We Fall was a great addition to the story and Courtney Cole did not disappoint. It may not be my favorite, but it is a great read and one fans of the series will not want to miss.

Character Interview With Dominic:

Hi Dominic! Thanks so much for dropping by the blog today, I know you're a private person so I promise to make this as painless as possible.
Thank you so much for having me.

To kick this off, if you had to describe yourself in two words, what would they be and why?
Hmm. Private. (haha) and assertive.

Okay, now two words for Jacey?
Beautiful and sensitive.

What are the best and worst things about being famous?
Best: Having a platform for my voice to be heard. I was able to start a foundation for underprivileged kids. I wouldn’t have had as big of an impact if I didn’t have the job that I have.

Worst: Having the platform for my voice to be heard…simply because I don’t always say the wisest things. Haha. If you are in the public eye, you have to watch what you say and do at all times. It can grow tiring.

If you weren't acting, what do you think you would be doing?
Um. This is a good one. I think I’d like to be a concert pianist. The problem being, of course, that I don’t know how to play.

You and Jacey meet under less than ideal circumstances, what was it about that first night that made her stick with you?
She’s a far better person than I’ll ever be. She has an innate ability to find the good in everyone. She saw something good in me that I didn’t even know was there.

If you could go back and do one thing differently starting with the moment you met Jacey, is there anything you would change?
No. I wouldn’t want to take the chance that I would f&$k things up. Things ended up working out well for us… I wouldn’t want to take the chance that I would screw that up

What is the hardest decision you have ever had to make?
Walking away from Jacey. I believed that I would truly annihilate her. I didn’t want to do that.

If you could have one day to do anything you wanted, no limitations, what would you do and would you want anyone with you? If so, who?
Well, I have the ability to do anything that I want. The problem is…and always will be… having the time to do it. My idea of perfection is a day where time ceases to be important. A day where I’m not rushed from my trailer, to on-set, to interviews, etc. I would like to lay on a beach with Jacey in the sun—and throw my watch into the ocean.

Time for some this or that:
Vanilla or Chocolate? I’m never, ever vanilla.
Day or Night? Night. By all means.
Rock or Pop? Sin would kill me if I didn’t say Rock.
Coke or Pepsi? Coke. Hands down.
Blue or Green? Green.

Thanks for stopping by Dominic! It was great to have you here!
Thank you very much for having me!

About The Author:

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.
Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.

  1. I really enjoy this series, especially If You Leave, but had a harder time connecting with this one. I agree that we need a book for Brand ASAP.

  5. Um, the bad boy?!? *grin* Actually, while I do love my bad boys, they do have to be redeemable. :)

Lovely review, Teresa! I love that you didn't like Dominic at first but once you dug deep enough, you liked what was underneath. He sounds like my kind of bad boy, actually. Thanks for the interview with him as well. I enjoyed that!

  6. Oh, I am so intrigued with Dominic right now. Sometimes I enjoy not having insta-love with a character but growing to like them as those layers are peeled back. 9. And now, to answer the question for the giveaway. My favorite quality in a bad boy is that he realizes he can hurt his girlfriend very badly. He therefore tries to protect her from himself in any way he can. I just LOVE that!! : )
