  88. The best book I read in 2013 was a departure for me - non fiction. Far from the Tree is an exploration of children who were not at all like their parents. There were many reasons for the difference including: deafness, autism, Down's Syndrome, prodigies, criminals and dwarfs. Much of the book was difficult to read either because it was too technical or because it was too disturbing. I borrowed the from the library; they were very good about letting me renew the same copy (with post-it notes!) until I finished.
