"The New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments continues—and so do the thrills and danger for Jace, Clary, and Simon.
What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series."

Nicole Speaks:
While reading every book in the Mortal Instruments series I always feel like I know what is going to happen and I understand everything that is going on, but every single time I’m more shocked than before. This book, and especially the ending, was no exception.

When Clary leaves everything behind to go with Jace and save him I was angry, upset and just overall frustrated. I wanted her to go with him and save him, but at the same time one thing she did bothered me! She had a connection with Simon and I felt like she barely used it! I just kept wanting her to focus on her goal of saving him, instead of enjoying her adventures across the world with Jace, who wasn’t even Jace! But at the same time, I understood that there wasn’t much she could do right away. I guess I just wanted old Jace back so much that I took all of my anger out on Clary not being able to fix him.

Sebastian is such an amazing villain. You constantly have such a strong feeling of hatred towards him, but then all of a sudden he does something that makes you questions how evil he is, or if it is all Valentines fault. Everything he does makes you question everything else! He is one of my favorite villains.

I loved to see the growth between Simon and Isabelle. She finally begins to open up to him and she tells him exactly what she wants. That is all Simon needed and he was there for her. I just loved that they were finally admitting to each other how they really feel about each other.

While most people love Jace and Clary, in my mind they are nothing compared to Magnus and Alec. I have loved Magnus and Alec since the very start. They are perfect together and let me just say Cassandra Claire ripped my heart apart the entire book because of them! She just needs to leave them alone and let them be happy, but I am afraid that will never happen for them. Magnus and Alec are my favorite part of every book and they are the reason I can’t stop reading them.

Well, the ending of this book sure had some shocking moments, and I don’t want to ruin them for anyone, but let me just say… I sure can’t wait for the final book in the Mortal Instruments series.

  2. I also can't wait to find out what happens next! I agree- I love Magnus and Alec, and that arc completely broke my heart. I do like Simon and Isabelle too, so I'm ready to see what happens with them! After all is said and done, if Clary and Jace don't get their HEA... well. I'm not even going there. :)
