Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish

1. Memory Loss- I absolutely HATE this in a book! I can't stand it when I fall in love with a character, and then all of a sudden they lose all of their memories. Don't know why, but it makes me crazy. I have read and enjoyed books with this and enjoyed them, but for the most part it really kills a book for me.

2. Love Triangles That Are There Just For The Sake of Being There- I want to clarify this, I absolutely love a good love triangle. However, I cannot stand a love triangle where it is painfully obvious that the second love interest was added solely for the drama. The triangle where you do not see the connection with the second character at all and just cannot buy into it.

3. Constant Bad Decisions By A Character- I realize characters are going to make mistakes, it's what they do. However, there usually comes a point where I'm just like "You cannot be this dumb" and that is when I get fed up with the book.

4. Obviously Absent Parents- Give me a good reason why the parent are gone and/or oblivious, and I'm all in, however if I don't buy it then I get easily frustrated.

5. Supposedly Smart But Actually Dumb Characters- I hate it when I am led to believe a character is super smart, but then he/she doesn't see something very obvious.

Well that is it for this week, there really isn't much that will always make me dislike a book. Really for me it's all about circumstances and how an author handles a situation.

What made your list?

  1. Nice list! My problem with bad decisions is more of the stupid decisions. Like, why the hell are you doing that, character? STOP.

    1. Yes! The stupid decisions that make you shake your head cause you know its is going to lead to all the bad things!

  2. Really memory loss? I usually enjoy them, but yeah I do understand you. My list would have love triangles made just to add more drama too. Annoying as hell. Also cliche moments as the turn me off. Great list Teresa :)

    1. Memory loss just drives me crazy... I feel like I have to re-learn things I already know and I just can't. Not true for all books, but a lot of them.

  3. Love Triangles are becoming so common, and so irritating in books!

  4. Great list! I agree with all of these. Some books with memory loss were actually interesting, but it's become a sort of cliche.

    My Top Ten Tuesday.

  5. LOVE TRIANGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELL TO THE YEAH! This is just another reason why we are friends! Now, like you said, if the love triangle is done well, it's okay. But its got to be done right. :) Also agree with 3,4, and 5. Big fat turn offs with me, too!

*muggle huggles* *hands you cake 'cause cake is awesome*

  6. I totally agree with the love triangles that serve no purpose. I'm lucky I've been reading some great ones lately though. And I hate when a character makes the same dumb mistakes! It's like, really...?

  7. Great list! You had me chuckling at it. The only one of those I really do like is memory loss. Love those.
    Thanks for sharing!

  8. I have to agree. I don't like it when there is a disconnect between what the character is portrayed to be and their actions at all. Really turns me off.

I love getting comments and appreciate every single one of them! It always brightens my day =]

This is an award free blog. I truly appreciate the thought but I simply do not have the time. Comments are an award all on their own =]
