"Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just...wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm.

The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.

Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone.

Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her.

Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be."

My Thoughts:

I have been waiting what feels like an eternity for this book. From the moment I heard about it, I knew I wanted to get my hands on it. Angels and nephilim are one of my favorite paranormal beings, so of course I wanted to see how JLA did it. I’m happy to say that after more than a year of waiting, this book definitely lived up to my expectations. It may be one of my very favorite JLA books to date.

Honestly this book is like a perfect storm for me. Every single element in it is one of my favorites. I adore adult paranormal romance and constantly wonder why I don’t make time to read more of it. I love books written in the third person and how it allows the reader to easily see from more than one perspective. I love fallen angels and nephilim; they rank up with vampires for me. Then you add in the trademark JLA snark and wit and you have a winner. Everything that went into this book is something I absolutely love in a book, so really there was no way I couldn’t love this book.

Really, I simply loved the nephilim and fallen angel story line. Fallen angels are like the ultimate bad boys and therefore I love them. While nephilim and angels have been done before, JLA still managed to give it her own flair. The snark and witty dialogue we have come to expect from her was there and the story was fast paced and action packed. Oh and of course the romance was scorching hot and off the charts.

Lily is my favorite kind of heroine. She is just so kickass and strong. She is funny and witty and determined. Nothing scares her and she doesn’t back down from a fight. I loved her wit and humor and how strong she was. Really I just loved her. She. Is. Awesome.

Then we have Julian. Oh how I loved Julian. JLA really knows how to write a guy that you will immediately fall in love with. He is oh so sweet and sexy. He also has his dangerous side and somehow that just made him more alluring. He pretty much defined “right kind of wrong.”

The writing style in Unchained is different from most of the other JLA books I’ve read (which is all of them). It is written in the third person and from varying perspectives. I actually loved this… like a lot. I personally tend to enjoy third person and I also really enjoy varying perspectives. Lily’s perspective was by far my favorite of them all but I did like seeing a wider picture. I also liked all the action we get in Unchained. There are a lot of butt kicking scenes and I loved it. The book moved at a super-fast pace that kept me glued to the pages.

Unchained is a book I looked forward to for quite some time and I am so glad it lived up to my ridiculously high expectations. JLA has done it again and I’m not surprised at all.

  1. You had me at "It may be one of my very favorite JLA books to date." How can I not bump this to the top of the list? And didn't we just dish on fallen angels? This book sounds perfect! I need to meet Julian and Lily ASAP. Love this fabulous review! <3

  2. I really liked this one too, though for me it wasn't as amazing as the rest of JLA's books. I loved Lily and Julian! I prefer first person to third, so maybe that dampened the book for me a bit, but I'm still obviously crazy excited for the next one. Awesome review, Teresa :)

  3. GAH! I want to read this one so much!!!! Great review girl! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed this one and that you enjoyed Julian and Lily. I also love fallen angels/nephilim books and I've been craving another series about it!

  4. OOOoh very nice review!! I've been excited for this one for a long while as well...I just need to read it now! Other books keep getting in my way...wanting to get caught up in this or that series before the next release, then review books. It's crazy! But it's likely to be book number 1 in my ebook challenge next month!

Love JLA's writing and so looking forward to reading this one! Have read nothing but good reviews. Once again, great review!

    1. I cannot wait to see what you think of it! I hope you love it as much as I did!

  5. Oh, its so nice that Unchained lived up to all your expectations. It's been a while since I've read a Nephilim book, but this sounds good.
    Great review, Teresa!

  6. YES! Loved this review to pieces! I adore new adult paranormal romances, and angel/nephilim, so this one was right up my alley! Though I'm not a big fan of 3rd person, JLA wrote it amazingly!

And JULIAN! GIRL!! *fans myself* That man! What a man/fallen angel!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great, great review!!!!!

  7. I downloaded a sample, but haven't had a chance to read it yet. I should just buy the damn book. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I haven' found a JLA book yet that I didn't like, but then, I haven't read everything she's written. At least, not yet.
