""You have to teach your heart and mind how to sing together…then you'll hear the sound of your soul."
Mia Kelly thinks she has it all figured out. She's an Ivy League graduate, a classically trained pianist, and the beloved daughter of a sensible mother and offbeat father. Yet Mia has been stalling since graduation, torn between putting her business degree to use and exploring music, her true love.

When her father unexpectedly dies, she decides to pick up the threads of his life while she figures out her own. Uprooting herself from Ann Arbor to New York City, Mia takes over her father's café, a treasured neighborhood institution that plays host to undiscovered musicians and artists. She's denied herself the thrilling and unpredictable life of a musician, but a chance encounter with Will, a sweet, gorgeous, and charming guitarist, offers her a glimpse of what could be. When Will becomes her friend and then her roommate, she does everything in her power to suppress her passions-for him, for music-but her father's legacy slowly opens her heart to the possibility of something more."

My Thoughts:

Guys, this book was so addictive. I knew I needed to stop reading and go to sleep but I just couldn’t. I needed to know what was going to happen. Every time I thought I would read just one more chapter, something would transpire that had me clutching the book to find out if everything turned out okay. I just couldn’t stop.

Mia was a great heroine, but she will frustrate you. What makes Mia great is that she could be anyone. She is a 25 year old and basically dealing with a quarter life crisis. She doesn’t really know what she wants from life. What she thinks she wants she really doesn’t and she wants what she thinks she shouldn’t. It’s all really confusing. It also makes her frustrating but not necessarily in a bad way. You have to remember that as a reader its easy to see the choices she should make but if you were living it you could see why she made the choices she did make. I think it’s safe to say that most people go through a period where they don’t really know what they want. A time when they think they have it all planned out only to find out that it’s not what you expected. As a 24 year old who is still pretty new to the real world, I know I connected with Mia. Although if I had Will, let’s just say I would have jumped on that a lot quicker.

Will *sigh* some of my favorite characters are named Will (Cooper, Herondale) and this Will is no different. Will Ryan is amazing and I fell hard for him. Let’s not even talk about the fact that he is a musician, because that’s really just icing on the cake. Will is just; I can’t even put him into words. He is emotional and lives life to the fullest. He wears his heart on his sleeve and loves unconditionally. He is just amazing. Its why your heart will break for him, because while he is sure in what he wants, Mia is still trying to find herself.

Like I said, I couldn’t put this book down. I just kept reading and reading because I just needed the conclusion. I kept saying one more chapter. One more chapter will help ease my mind and then I can sleep. But with each chapter I just became more and more invested in the story and my mind never eased enough for me to stop reading. I doubted that everything would turn out okay in the end. Really its better I finished the book because I wouldn’t have been able to sleep if I didn’t get the conclusion. Less sleep is better than no sleep. The story made my heart hurt and my emotions run wild, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.

One thing I need to mention is Mia’s friend Jenny. I didn’t like her and her tough love crap very much. I know Mia needed to hear some unpleasant things, but that wasn’t what really bothered me. Be warned, the next bit could be considered a spoiler. When Mia and Will fall apart, Jenny clearly sides with Will. I’m sorry; you don’t do that to a friend. If you are friend with both people, you stay out of it, you do not take sides! Even if she was upset with the choices Mia made, if she is truly your friend you don’t judge and you don’t cut her off. You talk to her and see where she is coming from and explain how you feel about the situation and why you think she should have acted differently. Or if you want to remain friends with both people, which is perfectly fine, you stay out of it! Again, you do not take sides! I mean, how old are we? I don’t like that she put all the blame on Mia, because in the end relationships require two people. Okay I’m done ranting. It’s a shame I really liked Jenny up until then. Moving on.

Sweet Thing is a heartbreaking yet heartwarming read. It’s about finding yourself and learning to trust and find passion in your life. And yeah there’s a great romance and a hot musician. For me, it really hit home and the book will always be special because of that.
