"Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way."

My Thoughts:

For everyone who feels all New Adult novels follow the same pattern and that none are original, this book is for you. This is so different from any other New Adult book I have read. Sure it’s got the swoony guys and romance, but the story is more about Lexie growing up and deciding her path. Also it’s a love triangle that doesn’t make you want to rip your hair out; always a good thing.

Lexie is such a fun character. She is just your typical college girl. She is a little unsure and trying to find herself and dealing with all the things girls deal with during their college years. Well, her love life drama is a little more complicated than most, but hey, that’s what makes for a good story. I liked her spunk and her attitude and that she was just a regular girl.

Then there is Alessandro and who wouldn’t swoon over this guy? He is such a sweetheart and I couldn’t help but love him. He is a great person who helps Lexie through a tough time in her life. He doesn’t judge or condemn, he is just there for her and you can’t ask for more in a friend. It’s so clear he cares so much for Lexie. He is also smoking hot. My favorite though was Trent. Oh how I loved Trent. He had maybe said three sentences and I just knew I was done for. He is an absolute sweetheart and I wanted to cuddle him. It’s obvious that he loves Lexie for everything she is. He is the guy that runs his hand over her leg, despite the three day stubble. And that sounds weird, but I am sure any girl can appreciate how much that shows. That no matter what, Lexie can be herself with him. Also did I mention he plays guitar?

You can probably tell that this is not your normal love triangle. First we have the obvious; there are taboos associated with both relationships. So that is one thing that makes it stand out. Aside from that, the triangle is a good one. It’s not one of those that feels forced or makes you crazy. It’s clear how Lexie could have feelings for both of these guys. Plus this isn’t a situation where you hate either one of the guys. While I clearly had a favorite in Trent, I also loved Alessandro. Both of them were genuinely good guys that any girl would be lucky to have. I can honestly say that I would have being happy with whoever Lexie ended up with as long as it felt like the right choice for her.

A Little Too Far was such a great story and it kept me hooked from page one. I loved visiting Rome through the pages and taking this journey with Lexie. I loved all the swoony moments and I loved watching Lexie learn who she is and what she wants from life. This book lived up to the huge amount of hype.

All in all, A Little Too Far is a book all new adult enthusiasts need to pick up. It is also one for those who are getting a bit burnt out by the genre; I promise you it is fresh and different.

  1. Uh, I was so confused after reading this book - I liked some parts, but there were more things that bothered me. Unlike you, I think this is pretty much usual NA, but with little extra spice in form of "tabooish" topics - I didn't found too believable and it felt too melodramatic for me.
