"Making a deal with the bad guys wasn’t the highlight of Rena Collins’ semester, but, hey, it saved her boyfriend. Now, in order to appease the human-altering organization known as ERA, she’ll crawl under their microscope while they study the Mark of Nexus and plot their eye-glazed version of the future—until she realizes that’s not all they’re plotting.

Wallace Blake has always known his girlfriend is unlike most girls. But now that information has surfaced regarding the two bloodlines that balance his supernatural race, he finally understands why. Rena belongs to one of them. She’s been augmenting his power, all along...

Enter: Corynn Catley. Brought into the country under the guise of an internship, she’s intended to become ERA’s secret weapon. Kind of. Her abilities cancel out Wallace’s, rendering him powerless, but that’s exactly what he’s always wanted. Too bad it only works when his girlfriend’s not around.

All the while, Rena fails to notice the crush her geeky best friend, Aiden Ross, is nursing. He’d give anything for her to see him in a new light—even reinvent himself through questionable means--but there’s a reason people are told to be careful what they wish for. Finding the courage to tell her could put everyone’s lives in danger.

Courage (Mark of Nexus #2) is a New Adult paranormal romance that features four unique points-of-view. While the novel stands alone, it is best enjoyed after Strength (Mark of Nexus #1)."

My Thoughts:

I have been looking forward to this book since the moment I finished Strength a couple of months ago. I just love this series! It has everything I want in a New Adult book, but then it throws in some paranormal elements. Not your typical paranormal elements, different ones, so really I think this series was made personally for me. I love me some paranormal and I also love me some New Adult and with this book they just blend perfectly.

I guess I want to start with Rena. I just love this chick! She is so feisty and spunky and just a fun character. She did make some decisions that made me want to shake her, but I always understand her reasoning. She always tries to do what is best for others and is so selfless.

Then there is Wallace and I just adore him. He is so sweet and cute and strong (haha yeah I know, but strong in others ways too). I love how he carefully hopes for more and how he looks tough but on the inside he is like a giant marshmallow. He has so many wonderful qualities that make me want to hug him.

While I love Wallace, I’m not going to lie, in my opinion he doesn’t hold a candle to his brother Cole. I absolutely love Cole. He is so funny and quick witted and steals every single scene he is in. But beyond that he is a great guy. We get to see a much different side of him in this one. I always knew there was a genuinely good guy hiding behind the wit and sarcasm.

Now there are two characters I do have some issues with and they are Gabby and Aiden, Rena’s friends. I use the term friends loosely. I don’t really know what it is, but I find it hard to like them, and I am pretty sure that is how I am supposed to feel. I just think Rena deserves better friends, but whatever, it doesn’t detract from the awesome story.

Speaking of the awesome story, this one kept me on the edge of my seat. From beginning to end I was sucked into the story. It broke my heart, made me laugh, kept me guessing, and made me flail. I loved the romantic aspect of the story, but I also loved the action and drama that went along with it.

My favorite addition to this series is the varying points of view. I really love that we got Wallace’s point of view as well as two other pivotal characters. I feel like it added another layer to the story and really expanded the world. I loved that I didn’t live inside the bubble of Rena’s point of view. I love her POV, but she can’t be everywhere. Getting the varying perspectives allowed the reader to know things Rena didn’t and see things you wouldn’t be able to in her perspective. Plus I loved being in Wallace’s head. Also, here is where I put in the official request for Cole’s point of view! *puppy dog eyes*

Courage is a great addition to an already great series. It takes everything we love about New Adult and combines it effortlessly with everything we love about paranormal romance. It is a fresh addition to both genres and one that would be a shame to miss.

About The Author:

Carrie Butler daydreamed her way through college—until they thrust a marketing degree into her hands, slapped a summa cum laude seal on the corner, and booted her out into a less-than-stellar job market. Instead of panicking at the prospect of unemployment, she used her Midwestern logic to steer into the skid and point her life in the direction she really wanted to go: writing out those daydreams.
Her passion for New Adult fiction led her to co-found NA Alley—a widely recognized informational hub for the category. She is the author of STRENGTH (Mark of Nexus #1) and COURAGE (Mark of Nexus #2). Website | Blog | Facebook | Twitter | Google + | Pinterest | YouTube | Goodreads
