"Would you be willing to make a mess of your life to get exactly what you want?

Kylie Lord has known Trent Moss and Dray Savage since college. Trent, the smart and kind-hearted humanitarian has had her heart from the moment they met, but someone else always has his. Dray is an arrogant professional football player who happens to be Trent’s best friend and Kylie’s nemesis “with benefits.”

Five years after graduation, Kylie is commanding the world with a new image and a successful business; however, she lacks the one thing she wants and the one thing she can never have. That is, until one fateful night when Kylie decides to go after all of her forbidden fantasies and risk everything.

Two men, completely different and poles apart, but together they are her idea of perfection. One can only offer her tonight and the other forever, but can Kylie settle for just one man, or can she have her cake and eat it too?"

My Thoughts:

Cake was not what I was expecting at all. For those of you who have read Nicole’s Ruining series, this book is nothing like those. That’s not a bad thing and it was actually a pleasant surprise for me. Really it just shows Nicole’s diversity as a writer. Cake was such a fun read and OMG it was hysterical.

Kylie is the kind of character that is easy to like. She isn’t perfect and that’s what I love about her. She doesn’t always make the best choices and sometimes she gets herself into trouble, but that’s what makes her real. We all mess up and Kylie definitely makes mistakes, but when it really counts Kylie does what needs to be done.

Then we have Dray. I adored Dray. Again, not because he is perfect but because of his imperfections. Dray doesn’t always make the best choices either and some of his actions make me want to introduce him to my backhand, but again he is realistic. He reacts how you would expect someone in his situation to react and I can’t really fault him for that.

Then we have Trent. Trent is the one character I thoroughly disliked. I don’t know. For all of his “save the world” nonsense, to me he just came off as selfish. He may have redeeming qualities, but as a whole I struggled with him. I also need to mention Madison. Love this chick! Again, she isn’t perfect, but she is a good friend. She is the kind of friend who will tell it like it is and isn’t afraid to call you on your crap, but when push comes to shove she is the friend you want by your side.

As I mentioned before, this book is hysterical. I laughed out loud so many times. I took a real liking to the innuendos and dirty jokes. But along with that there is a serious undertone. An undertone of loss and grief. The book while it made me laugh also brought me to tears at one point.

The plot in Cake was not at all what I expected. It took me by surprise on numerous occasions and some of the twists left me shocked. I could not fathom a way in which everyone came out happy, but I’m also very happy with the way things went. It was a rollercoaster of a ride.

Cake is a great read and definitely one I would recommend. It’s funny and cute but also sexy and real. It’s a book contemp fans are sure to enjoy.

  6. Um...I'm nervous about this one? Does she want both? At the same time? Okay...that's not my thing.

    2. Haha she does want both but probably not in the way you are thinking. More like she wants one, but thinks she should want the other. Its an interesting triangle =]

  7. Oh I like books that completely take you by surprise, in a good way though! This isn't a book I would normally pick up from looking at the cover alone, but since you said it was laugh out loud funny, I think I'm going to add it to my TBR!
