"26-year old Gabriel Vincent is a badass hero. Or he used to be, anyway. As an ex-Army Ranger, Gabe never thought he needed anyone. But after one horrible night in Afghanistan scars him in a way that he can't get past, he needs someone who can help him heal...even if he doesn't realize it.

25-year old Madison Hill doesn't need anybody...or so she thinks. She grew up watching her parents' messed-up abusive relationship and she knows there's no way in hell that she's ever letting that happen to her.

They don't know it in the beginning, but Gabriel and Madison will soon develop a weakness: Each other.

But Gabriel's got a secret, a hidden monster that he's afraid Maddy could never overcome... And Maddy's got issues that she's afraid Gabe will never understand. They quickly realize that they need each other to be whole, but at the same time they know that they've got demons to fight.

And the problem with demons is that they never die quietly."

My Thoughts:

I seriously loved this book. I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am. I really enjoyed If You Stay, but If You Leave was just incredible. I just fell in love with the story, no matter how many times it made my heart hurt. Gabriel and Madison’s story was just absolutely wonderful in so many ways. I love this series because it takes characters that are broken, but shows the goodness and beauty in them.

Madison was a great character in If You Stay, and even then you could see how much she gave up for Mila. In If You Leave, you really see the difficult choices she was forced to make. You also see how much her parents messed up relationship hurt her. Madison doesn’t trust easily and she has good reason not to. I loved her for her strength and determination and for her ability to love so deeply despite everything.

Then there is Gabriel and I absolutely loved Gabriel. My heart broke for him over and over again. I loved him for everything he was including the things he thought he wasn’t. He was so strong and brave, even though he couldn’t see that. I also loved the lengths he was willing to go to for Maddy, even if he didn’t necessarily agree with them. He is a wonderful person even with all those demons of his.

The plot in this story will break your heart into a million different pieces. There were so many times where I felt heart broken and for so many different reasons. The story is so much more than Madison and Gabriel’s story together. It is also their story as individual people. Both of them have demons to face and finding each other isn’t going to magically fix everything, they have to fix themselves. But they are able to find happiness in each other and they are exactly what each other needs.

We also get some more Pax and Mila in this one, more than I thought we would. I loved it. I loved getting to see a bit more to their story and it was nice seeing them again. It was great seeing Maddy interact with them and to see how much she has come to like Pax after being very anti-Pax initially. I was just as invested in Pax and Mila’s continuation as I was Maddy and Gabriel.

If You Leave is a read that will pull at all your heartstrings. It is the kind of book that is very difficult to put down. You easily become attached to the characters and their journey. It is a story you won’t soon forget.

About The Author:

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.
Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.
