Addicted To New Adult: How I Fell For New Adult

I am very excited to be taking part in this event hosted by New Leaf Literary. This is an event to spotlight great New Adult reads and why we love New Adult books. Drop by here to check out the kick off post! Also there is an awesome giveaway included!

For me, my love for New Adult began with two books that I still hold near and dear to my heart. I read this book called Slammed by Colleen Hoover and that book just wormed its way under my skin and into my heart. Then I quickly followed it up with Point of Retreat, which I somehow loved even more than Slammed. I remember thinking how I loved that Will was pretty much my age and that I never read books where the characters are my age (I was still in college at the time). I went searching for books with characters in this age range and I stumbled across this little book called Easy by Tammara Webber. That book sealed the deal. I loved that the characters were in college and that I could really relate to them. I began to think that New Adult (although I don't think that term had been coined yet) was really the genre that focused on the time when people grow up. I mean, how many times do we read a YA novel with absent parents, because that is necessary for the story to move forward. With NA, absent parents is life because you are off on your own, probably for the first time. It is when all the really important first happen. In this day and age, it is when you finally start to grow up and become the person you were meant to be. That is what got me hooked on the New Adult genre. I just wanted more books with characters like that! I love that New Adult has begun to blossom and turn into it's own thing. I think it opens up a whole new world with the potential for some really great books. We have already gotten some amazing ones because of this boom and I am still ready for more.

  1. You and I fell for the same New Adult books! Once I read Slammed, Point of Retreat, and Easy there was no going back.

I really like how you describe NA, and that you said it's about a time when you're becoming the person you're meant to be.

I'm so glad NA took off the way it did!
