"In the fourth and final installment, Maggie and Caleb must tie up all the loose ends of their lives and make a way to be together completely on their own. With everything that happened with Bish and Maggie's father, she's almost reluctant to move on and move out. And now she must figure out all of this...stuff...with Haddock. But of course, nothing can stay simple for the Jacobsons. Enemies who were thought to be dissolved have decided to not go down so easily. And old flames come calling for more than just Maggie. Caleb is torn between leading his family and personal wants. Maggie is torn between Caleb and being the leader of their people. But neither will let what they need most to be pushed to the wayside. They are determined to make it all work, design a plan toward destiny, and make everything right again for themselves and their family.

And then there's a wedding..."

My Thoughts:

Recently I have been reading a lot of books that take your heart and stomp on them. The kind that are emotionally taxing to read (but are still worth it). So I felt like I needed a lighter book. One that would be fluffy and sweet and happy. This is what led me to pick up Independence, because Shelly Crane really knows how to write a super sweet romance.

The relationship between Maggie and Caleb is really just too cute for words. They complement each other perfectly and they make a great team. There is never any doubt between the two and they will always back each other. Neither will ever have to worry about facing anything alone. They are so romantic that it really is sickening sometimes.

Caleb is a cutie and I really do love him, I have since the moment he offered Maggie his kidney. He is the definition of sweet! He always puts Maggie first and keeps her best interests at heart. There is nothing he would not do for her. A guy like Caleb would never ever exist in real life, but that is alright because he is fun to read about.

While I liked it, I have to admit that I didn’t love Independence as much as I did the previous books. Part of me felt as if nothing really happened throughout the story. Caleb and Maggie would be cute, then argue with someone, then Caleb and Maggie would have another cute moment, then Maggie would have a vision, then would be cute again and on and on and on. Once we got to the end of the story it climaxes and then ends abruptly. I had no trouble guessing a good amount of the plot and it really was just too sweet at times. With that being said, I think this may have something to do with my change in reading taste. I used to be all about the fluffy stories and while I do still like them I also want a little bit more to my story. I want the grief and struggle and the heartache, so that it really is worth it in the end. I want to seriously question if everything will turn out okay and know that sometimes there is not happy ending. I never questioned that with this book because you KNEW a happy ending was on the way. Again, my reading taste has changed since I first started this series, but I wanted to see how it all wrapped up. I’m not sure if I would have even picked up Significance had I just learned about it now.

All in all, despite my complaints, it is an enjoyable read and I did like the fluff. It was quick and fun. I’m glad I took the journey with Maggie and Caleb and I am happy with the way the story ended. This is a series to read when you need a pick me up.

  4. Wifey!! We haven't discussed this series!! I've read the first book, and I adore Caleb! I'm so happy to know it's a good ending... even if it didn't blow you away. It's hard to switch gears between dark and sweet sometimes. Excellent review as always, my love! xo
