Interview With Christina Lauren

Today on the blog I am very excited to have the authors of Beautiful Bastard here to answer some questions!  I recently reviewed Beautiful Bastard and you can go here to check that out. These authors wrote Beautiful Bastard together under the pen name Christina Lauren.

Hello ladies and thank you for taking the time to drop by my blog today!
Happy to be here! Thanks for inviting us!

Goodreads
So to start off, if you had to describe each other in two words what would they be and why?
Lauren: Ooooh, this is a good one. I would say Christina is sunny and consistent.
Christina: Love this! I would say Lo is loving and determined. And I’m going to cheat and also add hilarious.

What first sparked your interest in writing?
Christina: I’d always had these crazy ideas running around in my head, but didn’t really sit down and think I could write something for fun until later in life. I found this amazing community of women writing stories and sharing them with each other and it sort of blew my mind.
Lauren: I’ve always loved to write. In some ways, I think I’ve always loved writing more than almost anything. But science was hard for me, initially, and I wanted to chase that challenge down a little. I fell in love with neuroscience in undergrad, and went on to earn my doctorate in biology, but when I started writing for fun, I realized how much I’d missed that creative side of the world.

What is the best advice you have ever received concerning you writing?
Lauren: To write what you know. I couldn’t write an authentic book about growing up in a coal mining town, or traveling the world as a child with parents in the military. But I can write books that play with the rules of the physical world, and, because I had about fifteen million boyfriends before meeting my husband, I can also write books about falling in love.
Christina: For me it’s sort of the opposite. I’m married to my high school sweetheart so it’s so much fun to write people having experiences outside of my own. The best writing advice has probably come from Lo, who encourages me to stop flailing and Just. Write.

If you were stuck on an island and could only pick one book or series to keep with you forever, what would it be and why?
Lauren: I’d say the Harry Potter series. Not only are there multiple, enormous books in the series, the world is so rich that it would provide endless inspiration for fanfiction.
Christina: Oh excellent choice! Every time I pick up one of those books I find something new.

How would you describe Beautiful Bastard in one sentence?
Beautiful Bastard is silly, steamy, and swoony (and doesn’t take itself too seriously).

Beautiful Bastard was a collaboration between the two of you, how did you go about making that work? What was the writing process like?
Since the story was one that Christina had already written, initially Lauren edited extensively, reworked the ending, and then sent back to Christina for more edits. Usually we draft in parallel, separating the book into chapters and splitting them up between us. So, this process was a little different, but also very fun. It was a little like going on writer vacation to just play with something old and make it into something new.

If readers enjoy Beautiful Bastard, what are some other books you would recommend to them?
Readers should check out books by Cara McKenna, Ruthie Knox, Tiffany Reisz, Abbi Glines, Charlotte Stein, Maya Banks, EL James, and anything else that Apple, Amazon, or their local bookseller recommends! And of course, our next book BEAUTIFUL STRANGER. whistles

What is the inspiration behind Beautiful Bastard?
Christina grew up with a mom who read countless romance novels. Sometimes she’d get through three in a day. Christina always jokes that she had a superpower, where she’d open up the book and automatically find the sex scene, and usually it was toward the end. We both loved the idea of writing a book that maintained the tension between the couple, even after they’d had sex.

Last question, and I’ll make it fun, what is your favorite writing snack?
Lauren: I don’t really have a favorite snack, but I do like to have sparkling water or a glass of wine nearby!
Christina: M & M’s, and this is why I have to really really work to not graze constantly while I’m writing.

Thank you so much for dropping by the blog today!
Thank you! How fun!

About The Authors:
Christina & Lauren have been writing all kinds of stories together since 2009. This is not the first erotic romance they’ve ever written . . . but it is the first one under this name. Separated by the pesky state of Nevada, these co-author besties talk several times a day, agree that Ruby Pumps is the best nail polish color ever, and would, if given the choice, spend all day staring at the ocean from the San Clemente pier. I love getting comments and appreciate every single one of them! It always brightens my day =]

This is an award free blog. I truly appreciate the thought but I simply do not have the time. Comments are an award all on their own =]
