"Mara Dyer once believed she could run from her past.

She can’t.

She used to think her problems were all in her head.

They aren’t.

She couldn’t imagine that after everything she’s been through, the boy she loves would still be keeping secrets.

She’s wrong.

In this gripping sequel to The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, the truth evolves and choices prove deadly. What will become of Mara Dyer next?"

My Thoughts:

How can so much awesome be packed into one book????? That was my thought after finishing The Evolution of Mara Dyer. Just like the first book, I simply could not put this book down. It is addictive and amazing and just… OH MY GOSH! I don’t know what words to use to truly capture it’s awesomeness.

Mara Dyer is an incredibly original heroine. There is no other character like her out there in the world of YA fiction. She is such a strange mix of incredibly strong yet incredibly fragile. Nobody in the world believes her or really listens to her anymore because of the events in her past, that is everyone except Noah. This is what makes her fragile and makes her question her own sanity. You cant really blame her either, because if everyone thinks you are crazy then eventually you may start to believe that you are. Noah is what keeps her from fully breaking.

Ahhhh Noah Shaw. I said this in my review for The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, but it is worth repeating. Noah has skyrocketed his way to the top of my book boyfriend list. I just love the jerks and Noah is a jerk with a heart of gold. I love the lengths he is willing to go to for Mara and I love that he believes her and supports her unconditionally. He is the only one who truly listens to her and has faith in her.

This book is simply original. It is seriously like nothing I have ever read before and I doubt I’ll read anything like it again, at least not any time soon. It is so dark and twisted and mysterious but at the same time it is incredibly funny. Noah and Mara really have a way with words, especially when it comes to each other. The banter is just fantastic and all the dialogue is excellent. Oh and the cherry on top? No cheesy forced love triangle to be found here! Mara and Noah have enough issues without that and I’m glad the author didn’t feel the need to include it.

The plot in The Evolution of Mara Dyer is so confusing, but in a good way. I never knew what the heck was going on and it kept me glued to the pages. Every time you thought you were close to an answer, something else happens that makes you question everything. I could not figure out where the story was going at all and I loved it. You also never know what to believe. Since Mara doesn’t trust herself and she is the narrator, as a reader it is hard to decipher what is real and what is not. After two books I’m still confused as to what is going on with the story and I cannot wait to wrap up all the loose ends.

Oh and just a warning, the ending is cruel! Like stomp on your heart cruel! I just don’t know how I will survive the wait until the next book. I know I exaggerate about how I may die waiting for the next book a lot BUT this wait really might kill me… like seriously.

So to wrap it all up, The Evolution of Mara Dyer is a fantastic read. If you haven’t picked up this series yet, I highly recommend you do so soon.

  2. I've read really mixed reviews about this series, so I was really unsure about giving it a try even though I've had the first book sitting on my shelf for ages. But lately I've really been enjoying books which mess with your head, so I think I may have to start this series sooner rather than later. Great review! :)

  4. Well, I think you captured the awesomeness perfectly!! Fabulous review! Noah sounds amazing - so much more to him than a pretty face. WANT. You know I picked up the first book after you shared your thoughts on that one - I haven't squeezed it in yet, but I might as well go ahead and buy this one. I know I'm going to love it and its cruel ending! xoxo

  5. I really did not like the first book, it felt to scatter-brained for me. But I loved Noah, I like the jerks too. I've heard from other reviewers who were not huge fans on book one, that book two is better. I may have to give it a shot. If for no other reason than to get a little more Noah in my life. ;)
