"Your strength in heart and hand will fall. . . . Ellie knows that the darkest moments are still to come, and she has everything to fight for: She must fight for Will.

The demonic have resorted to their cruelest weapons to put Will in mortal danger, and Ellie makes an unlikely alliance to save him and to stop Lilith and Sammael, who seek to drown the world in blood and tear a hole into Heaven.

She must fight for humanity.

As the armies of Hell rise and gather for the looming End of Days, Ellie and her band of allies travel to the world’s darkest and most ancient regions in her quest to come into her full glory as the archangel Gabriel.

And Ellie must save herself.

Her humanity withers beneath the weight of her cold archangel power, but Ellie must hold tight to who she is and who she loves as she prepares for the ultimate battle for Heaven and Earth.

In this final installment in the Angelfire trilogy, Courtney Allison Moulton brings her dark world of epic battles and blistering romance to a blazing bright conclusion."

My Thoughts:

THIS. BOOK. WILL. KILL. YOU. Fans of the Angelfire series, be warned. This book will rock you to the core, but it is oh so good. I loved every little letter that made up every word in every sentence within the pages of this book. I do not think Courtney Allison Moulton could have wrapped this series up any better. From beginning to end I was hooked. This book turned me into an emotional wreck, but those are the books that always end up being my favorites.

Ellie continues to be one of my favorite heroines. She is kickass and strong and nothing ever keeps her down for long. She has to overcome so many different obstacles and she does each and every time. No matter what is thrown at her, I never doubt her ability to persevere. Ellie is a character that is faced with incredibly tough choices, but she always thinks about the greater good and always strives to make the right choice. Some of the choices she makes are not the best for her, but she does it anyway.

This book has a lot more Cadan, and I was surprisingly okay with that, which I did not think I would be. His character is very different from when we first met him and I truly enjoyed watching his character change. His character truly fascinates me and I loved the journey his character took. Cadan shows that what you are does not define you, and you can choose to better yourself.

Now you are probably thinking; “Teresa, aren’t you a crazy Will fan? Why did this review not start off with all sorts of Will rambling?” Well about that… Will is left in a very precarious position at the end of Wings of the Wicked and well I simply refuse to let anyone know what happens to him one way or another. You can suffer like I did while reading. I spent a lot of time dying to know what was going to happen to Will one way or the other. I will say this, what you do see of Will is swoony.

As I said before, Shadows in the Silence is a great story and it will make your heart hurt. You will truly feel for the characters and become heavily invested in their story. The book will constantly break your heart and it seems as if the poor characters simply cannot catch a break. It seems as if they go from one tragedy to the next. The book will tear you down, only to lift you back up again. I am pretty sure the pages of the book are stained with my tears. I cried so much; I don’t mean I shed a tear, I mean full on hysterical crying until I couldn’t see any more tears. I had worries because I read this book right after Finale (sometimes after I read a favorite, the next book pales in comparison), but my worry was misplaced. I loved Shadows in the Silence just as much as I thought I would. I loved taking the journey with these characters and seeing Ellie’s story come to a conclusion.

My absolute favorite thing about this book is that CAM did not take the easy way out. Sacrifices are made and not everyone comes out of this story happy on the other side. She shows that a war like this is not easy and simple; sometimes there are drastic consequences. CAM shows that sometimes sacrifice is necessary for the greater good and that if the person is strong enough, that sacrifice could benefit numerous others. I know this sounds preachy, but this book really does show that, simply by not giving every character a happily ever after. I hate to compare books to Harry Potter, but I am going to with this one, at least in terms of this one aspect. Both authors recognized that when a war like this occurs, some characters will be lost along the way and that things are not always easy. The loss of these characters makes you appreciate the outcome all the more and it makes the situation believable (as much as a paranormal story is ever believable.)

To sum it all up, I seriously loved this book and I cannot wait to go back and live it all over again. I am torn because I love the way the series turned out, but now I am devastated that I do not have another book to look forward to. Thankfully we have Madeline and Bastian’s story to look forward to. CAM did a fabulous job wrapping up this series and I look forward to anything she has in store for us in the future. One last thing, I am totally on Team Waffles!

  5. Yet another amazing series I have to read!! I am definitely looking forward to reading the AngelFire series, especially since you enjoyed them so much and I am definitely looking forward to meeting Will and Ellie. And although I haven't read the book yet, I'm glad the author didn't make it all happy-happy in the end. I imagine it made the book seem more realistic, which is great any great book, so that's something I'm very curious to see how it ends up. Glad you were satisfied with how the series ended and I can't wait to see if I'll enjoy it as much as you did! :D
