"Eighteen year old Jay Stevenson is living a horrible nightmare.

Two years ago she had the world in the palm of her hand and in one moment it was all ruined for her. Secrets, lies and the worst imaginable betrayal will haunt her for the next two years, until all of it catches up to her and she will lose the control of the lonely world she has built around herself.

Three guys from her past and present will be there when it all comes crashing down. JT the perfect boyfriend she never wanted to give up, Rhye the local bad boy “rock star” that made her forget the past and Kane the funny and sweet tattooed bartender that wants her future.

Is it possible to change the path she chose for herself and still keep all of her secrets?

Recommended for readers 17+ due to sexual situations, violence and language."

My Thoughts:

I’m not really sure what I was expecting when I started reading this book, but it definitely wasn’t what I got. This is one of those books that really screws with your emotions. I kind of thought it would be a steamy and fun read for some reason but nope not at all. This is a serious book and it is tough at times. There were moments that had me cringing because I didn’t like picturing what I was reading, but the book is very engaging.

From the beginning, it is pretty clear what event occurred that caused Jay to go into her downward spiral. It really doesn’t take a genius to figure it out. However I don’t think the point of the story was for you to guess what happened. I think the point was for you to see how it destroyed Jay and then to watch her finally start to open up again. This book will give you emotional whiplash. It is hard to know what you want to happen because Jay doesn’t know what she wants to happen in her life.

Jay is broken and it hurt to be inside her head at times. This is a book where it is very easy to judge or condemn her actions but that would be wrong because everyone deals with tragedy differently. It would be wrong of me to sit here and judge her actions because thankfully I have no idea what she is going through. Jay is coping in the only way she really knows how.

Kane is my favorite character in this book because he is a rock. He is tough and strong and oh so patient. Kane has had tragedy touch his past as well. He connects with Jay and it is extremely clear how much he cares and wants to help her. Then we have JT, who is Jay’s first love. After she begins to spiral down, she pushes JT away. Naturally JT is not one to give up so easily. Once Jay comes out of her shell, he begins to try and make sense of what happened between them. JT is sweet and caring and just genuinely good. Then there is Rhye who we don’t see too much of, but what we do see I kind of like. This is the rock star bad boy that falls hard for the broken girl. Now I know what you are thinking, three guys seriously? But really it’s not like that at all. This story is not about whom Jay should choose and picking teams. This is about a girl who is trying to get her life back together and these guys are all a part of the process.

Now the writing is not perfect, but the story is great! Also there seems to be insta-love in the beginning buts it’s not really. I know that makes absolutely no sense, but once you finish the book you will see that it actually makes perfect sense. The book begins and seems to be going one way, only to completely veer in another direction, and then the floor drops out. Like I said, emotional whiplash.

I don’t know what to make of this book. All I know is that I stayed up late to read it and there was nothing that could have made me put it down. There was a portion of the book where I wanted to throw my iPad, but that would have meant I had to stop reading. So yeah, I think you should read this book and then you may be able to grasp what is going on in my head right now.

  1. How interesting! I'm very, very curious to find out what's happening. I love that you didn't critique the character's actions, b/c people make mistakes & react in so many different manners. It's clear the story made an impact on you. Excellent review!

    1. I really think you will enjoy this one! It is such a heartbreakingly good read!

  2. Great review! I haven't heard of this one before but adding it to my list. I love books that mess with my emotions! You definitely have me curious about this one now.

  3. I LOVE this review - you totally convinced me to add this one to my list! I love expecting a book to be a certain way and then having it surprise the heck out of me. Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing :D

  4. Oh dear! I like a book that you can't put down but I'm a little scared of books that screw with your emotions! It sounds like you won't be forgetting this one anytime soon!

  5. Teresa...YOU ROCK!! Love you and this blog!!! You know that your blog introduced me to my favorite book-boyfriend Daemon (yummy), so I'm a fan for life. lol Thanks again and love your review!!!

    1. That just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Daemon *sigh*

  6. I really enjoy stories like this. Where the the main theme is an emotional one, and there is plenty of character development. I really like the sound of this one, especially the characters. I'm very curious to know what happens to her but honestly the thing I'm most looking forward to is to see how Jay comes out of her shell and how the guys all play a part in her life. I am definitely intrigued. Can't wait to pick this one up! Glad you enjoyed it, even if it wasn't always "happy, happy". :D

    Fantabulous review! :)
