"Like most seventeen year olds, Ridley Heller thought she had her future all planned out. What she wanted most in life was to get out of small town Harker. Her only goal was to keep her mouth shut and her grades high so she could win a cheerleading scholarship to Stanford. But that was before she met Bo.

In Ridley’s wildest dreams, she could never have planned for someone like Bo, for a love so intense it left her breathless. No human girl could.

A haunting stranger that watched her from afar, Bo stole Ridley’s heart from the moment she laid eyes on him. But he has secrets. Bo’s a vampire. Both his past and his present are a danger to Ridley, but the biggest threat is not her blood; it’s her heart. He’s feeding a thirst for revenge that will cost him his life, and it may already be too late.

The more darkness Ridley uncovers, the more she realizes that her life will never be the same—with or without Bo. Can she sacrifice her future and her heart for someone who has a death wish?"

My Thoughts:

Once upon a time I read a little book called The Wild Ones and, well, an obsession began. I decided right then and there that I needed to read all of Miss Leighton’s books and I am slowly but surely making my way through them all. This was my first YA paranormal book by her and I now know that she can write adult and YA and that both are completely engaging and amazing. Long story short: I will seriously read anything by her.

I am a complete sucker for vampires, pun totally intended, and this book is exactly the kind of vampire book I adore. It is incredibly sweet and our vampire hero is swoon worthy. However the book has more than just “nice” vampires, there is a definite dark undertone. Our heroine is witty and feisty and very easy to like. Every element about the story just meshes together nicely and creates an addictive read.

Now I know what you are thinking, I am so sick and tired of vampires. Yes! There are a lot of vampire books, but that doesn’t mean we should stop reading them all together because there are some great ones out there. Vampires are cool and these vampires are no exception. I feel like there are two very distinct types of vampires in books today. We have the super sweet and nice vampire that doesn’t want to hurt people and then we have the dangerously sex crazed vampire. These vampires are neither, and they fall somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. It straddles the light and dark line perfectly. Our vampire hero Bo is super sweet and lovable, but he is still dangerous!

Speaking of Bo, I love him! He is the quiet type and doesn’t have much to say, but when he does say something it is amazing. I love his quiet demeanor and I love his devotion to Ridley. It is abundantly clear how much he cares about her and I seriously doubt there is anything he wouldn’t do for her. Personally, I love when you can see how much the love interest cares and not have to play the guessing game. Moving on to Ridley, I just like her; simple as that. She is strong, but not in the kick butt sense, more in the emotional sense. She takes in a lot of crazy all and once and she handles it well. When things scare her she acknowledges that but at the same time she doesn’t back down. She is just great.

Now up until this point, I had only read M. Leighton’s contemporary work. Those books are incredibly steamy and hot! For The Love Of A Vampire is not like that, but that does not mean I like it any less. I like her sweet and innocent (for lack of a better word) romance just as much as I like her steam-tastic romance.

All in all, For The Love Of A Vampire is a really enjoyable read, especially for vampire fans. You will root for the heroine, fall in love with the hero, and die a little bit on the inside when you read the ending. Now to make time for the next book!

This sounds fabulous and you know me, I can never resist any romance, whether it's sweet or hot...or both! lol ;p I'm very excited to read this one, and see how it differs so much from Leighton's contemporary books. And I think a new "type" of vampire is just what I need, and this book seems like the way to go! Fantastic review! Hopefully I can get to this soon.
