Book Review: Deity (Covenant #3) by: Jennifer L. Armentrout

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time.

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate..."

My Thoughts:

Deity is the kind of book it is very hard to write a review for without including spoilers because so many of the events are shocking. However, I will do my best to attempt a spoiler free review, so if the review seems ambiguous at times, well I’m sorry but it is for a good reason.

Oh my gods. This book was fantabulous. It is by far the best book in this already great series. Everything begins to come to a head in this book and it turns into a big giant mess, but a good mess. All of the events in Deity have been foreshadowed, but they will still shock you and the ending will leave you with your mouth hanging open wondering when you will be able to read Apollyon.

My first Jennifer L. Armentrout book was Obsidian, and I loved that one so much that I picked up Half Blood immediately after. I will admit that Half Blood is not my favorite JLA book. I do like it, but I like most of her other books better. Pure is actually the book that made me fall in love with this series and I was so glad I stuck with the series after reading Pure. Deity, however, blew both of those books out of the water. I would not say it is my favorite JLA, because that still belongs to Onyx, but Deity was an incredible read. It was fast paced and had plot twists galore.

Alex continues to be a fabulous heroine. She is tough and feisty and reckless. However, she is also brave and vulnerable and loyal. Alex is the kind of character who can take care of herself and sometimes she goes out of the way to prove this. At the same time though, she does ask for help, even if she sometimes asks for the help a bit too late.

Aiden…. be still my heart… Aiden St. freakin Delphi. I love this boy. It was love at first sight in Half Blood and after Deity I am completely ensnared by him. A lot of new stuff about Aiden is brought to light in Deity and I really loved learning more about him and about his past.

Seth….. I have never liked Seth and I still do not like Seth. I will leave it at that.

Deity is the kind of book that has the ability to make you crazy, but you will still love it. The ending will haunt you and leave you dying to get your hands on Apollyon. You know, Jennifer has a pretty quick turnaround for books in her series. I mean most series have a year in between books as a minimum, but I think the wait for her books is worse than the others. Despite them being relatively short, they are just torture. This may be my biased opinion; because she is my favorite and obviously I am going to anticipate her books, but I think it might be that JLA is amazing at building up anticipation.

Speaking of anticipation, Deity has a lot of it. This book builds up to one specific moment perfectly. The reader will be dying for this event to occur and then when it does… oh my lord. Jenn made it happen at just the right moment. It is not rushed to at all, but then again it is not dragged out either. She builds up to these things perfectly.

There are so many other things I want to talk about. Like how one scene will probably bring you to tears and how certain characters need to be poked in this eye, but I have to stop this review sometime and I guess now is a good a time as any. If you haven’t figured it out already, Deity is a great read that leaves you dying for more. I have said it before and I’ll say it again, Jennifer never disappoints.

  3. AMEN TO THAT!!! WOW, I have never wanted to get my hands on a book so badly until right this moment! My copy came in today..so I know exactly what I am reading next. I can't wait to see all these mysterious things you've pointed put, especially the big event (and I hope it includes Alex and Aiden and naked bodies! LOL ;p) But, I wont keep my hopes too high..just in case, it turns out different. ;p But, Seth...oh no! I really took a liking to him in Pure despite me being a Aiden maniac. But I am definitely curious to see what's he done. Why does he always have to do stupid things?? Le sigh.

Your review has my head in knots, Teresa! LOL ;p I can't wait to pick this one up and devour every moment of it. And I agree...Jennifer never disappoints! Fantabulous review!
