Character Spotlight: Katy Swartz

This week, Katy Swartz from The Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout is my character of choice (thanks to some help from you guys.) As always, beware of spoilers.

Whenever someone asks me to name a character that I can relate to the most, one of the characters that immediately comes to mind is Katy Swartz. Now, if you have read the book it probably seems obvious why I can relate to Katy, but there are numerous reasons. From the book blogging, to her sarcasm and wit, to her inability to keep her mouth shut, there is just something about her that reminds me of myself.

Katy is a book blogger, so naturally she is awesome. She possesses that love of books that we all possess, and it is genuine.  Her inner dialogue when it comes to books is simply hilarious and I really do love when her blogger self pops up. I especially love the scene where we see her post an In My Mailbox vlog with Daemon. Another thing that makes Katy great is her wit. She has a very smart mouth and she has no problem dishing out insults, especially when it comes to Daemon. However, we all know she enjoys those little banter sessions with Daemon. I also especially love the way she has various uses for the word douche.

Katy is not only great because of books and wit; she is also a strong character. She is not one to sit by and let things happen around her. She gets involved, even with things that seem out of her league, and always tries her best to help. Even when her choices turn out to be the wrong choices, she always has the best intentions. Katy never backs down from a fight and she is always willing to help protect those she cares about.

Katy and Daemon are a whirlwind, and it is amazing that they are even capable of normal conversations at all. Despite the constant bickering though, Katy is good for Daemon. She allows him to open up again and she also doesn't let him get away with all of his crap. At the same time, Daemon is good for Katy. He keeps her grounded in the aftermath of everything that happened in Obsidian and he truly understands her like nobody else.

For all these reasons and so many more, Katy is one of my all-time favorite heroines. I simply cannot wait to see where her story goes.

Favorite Katy Quotes:
“My palms itched to have a close encounter of the bitch-slap kind with his face.”  -Obsidian

“Stalking me again, I see. Do I need to get a restraining order?" "In your dreams, Kitten." He smirked. "Oh wait, I'm already starring in those aren't I?" I rolled my eyes. "Nightmares, Daemon. Nightmares” -Obsidian

“Daemon followed me home after school. Literally. He tailed me in his new Infiniti SUV. My old Camry, with its leaky exhaust and loud muffler, was no match for the speed he wanted to go. I’d brake-checked him several times. He’d blown his horn. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.”  -Obsidian

“Your mail could've waited." Daemon followed me into the kitchen. "What is it? Just books?" Grabbing the OJ from the fridge, I sighed. People who didn't heart books didn't understand.”  -Onyx

“I understood books. I did not understand boys—especially alien boys.”  -Onyx

“Dog-eared pages were the antichrist of book lovers everywhere.” -Onyx

“Both of my hands were on his chest. They had a mind of their own. I claimed no responsibility for them." -Onyx

  2. Love this post! Katy is definitely one of my top favorite female characters of all time.
I totally agree with everything you said about her. She is definitely instantly awesome since she's a book blogger. :) I love that she's tough to and will give it right back to Daemon went he starts being arrogant or assumes she's weak. I especially loved Katy in Onyx because she was even tougher. Another thing I love about Katy is that she's loyal and will do anything to protect the people she cares about.
Also you picked out great quotes! I love her quotes on books, she totally gets it. Great post!
