"In this dramatic conclusion to the Shade trilogy, Aura and Zachary’s relationship sizzles as the secrets of the Shift are revealed. Life can change in an instant, and no one understands that better than Aura. It’s been almost a year since her boyfriend tragically died. She’s finally letting go of Logan’s violet-hued ghost, but not her search to uncover the truth about her past.
As the first in a generation that can see ghosts, Aura is convinced she has a connection to the Shift. She’s trusted Zachary, ever patient and ever by her side, with all that she knows. But when the government threatens his life in an attempt to learn Aura’s secrets, she will stop at nothing to protect herself and the one she loves...even if that means betraying her own heart."

My Thoughts:

Shine is the perfect end to a wonderful series. This is a series where the books got better and better as it progressed. The only thing that kept me from reading Shine in one sitting (like I did with Shade and Shift) was that before I knew it, it was 6am and I figured I needed to get some sort of sleep. However, the moment I woke up I picked up Shine and continued reading until I finished the book.

Aura has grown so much over the course of the three books. She has really grown into herself and her role in the Shift. I love to see character growth because it really makes the characters believable and relatable. Aura has become fiercely determined and incredibly strong. She is willing to go to extraordinary lengths for the people she loves; heck she is even willing to help people/ghosts she doesn’t even know. She is truly a kind person, but she has a lot of fight in her as well.

Zachary is yet another character that I am now obsessed with. He is strong, sweet, sexy, intelligent, and willing to do anything for Aura. However, Zach changes a lot during this book due to some dreadful events. He is still the charming Zach, but he is haunted by these dark events. Plus, he still has the lovely Scottish accent and well I’d like to see you resist that and oh yeah… the kilt. So consider me an official member of Team Kilt. See, look, I even have a magnet.

I also feel it is necessary to mention Megan. She is really just a great friend. She always supports Aura and it is clear she can be trusted. She is also simply funny. I always hate when the best friend in a book turns out to be untrustworthy or unsupportive at some point during the story. I liked that Megan never wavered and that she really was a true friend. She would tell Aura things she might not want to hear but needed to, because in the end she just wanted her friend to be happy.

Jeri Smith-Ready once again creates a story that it is easy to fall in love with. It is fast paced, without feeling rushed, and the story will surprise you. When you think one thing is going to happen, something else does. New villains show up, but the old ones are still troublesome as well. Basically, life for Aura and Zach is crazier than ever, which means we the readers get a better than ever story. I love that this series has so much Irish and Scottish heritage and I especially loved that this story travels to both of those places. The scenery described was beautiful and it fit perfectly with the story. I have always wanted to visit Ireland in the worst way and now even more so.

Overall, the Shade trilogy is a series that you need to pick up! I could try to express how much I love it in words, but I do not think there is a word out there that adequately describes it. So if you have not done so yet, do yourself a favor and read these books. I doubt you will be disappointed.

  1. This is such a great series. I'm really glad to see you enjoy it so much. I loved Zach and Aura, but I sure did miss Logan. And I loved Megan too. And Dylan! He needs his own story.
    Great review, hon!
