Character Spotlight: Tris Prior

Note: Post may contain spoilers.

When it comes to strong heroines, Tris Prior is one of the strongest out there in my opinion. In case you don't know; Tris is from the Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth. This is one of my all time favorite series, and Tris is one of my all time favorite heroines. Over the course of the books,Tris shows a lot of growth and goes from a quiet meek girl to someone who should not be messed with.

Tris is one of the few heroines in YA literature who does not need to rely on a guy for anything. At the same time her boyfriend, Four, knows that Tris is strong and capable of handling herself. They are one of the few couples that work together as opposed to the hero constantly coming in to save the day. Heck, Tris even saves Four's neck in Divergent. Tris relies on Four, and Four relies on Tris; it is a two way street.

Not only is Tris strong, but she is also selfless. One could say that it is her most prominent quality. She is always thinking of others first and taking actions to ensure the welfare of others. While she make think she is selfish, her actions show that she is not. She is her bravest when she is acting on behalf of others.

Tris is an admirable character, and while I questioned some of her actions in Insurgent, I also completely understood why she behaved the way she did. If any character had a right to "lose it", for lack of a better way to describe it, it was Tris. She suffered great losses and the one person she was left with began to doubt her. So while I always hate when a character whines, in this case it was normal for Tris to whine.

All in all, Tris is a great heroine and I love how realistic she is (aside from the living in the future thing). I think she deserves much more credit than she gets.

My All Time Favorite Tris Quote:

"It must require bravery to be honest all the time. I wouldn't know." -Divergent

  1. Finally someone understands Tris in Insurgent! Some of her actions weren't the best, but I also understand. After everything she's been through I'm glad that the author have showed her weaknesses. Tris is an amazing character! :)

    1. I love Tris, I think she is a great character. She is believable too, because she reacted to the bad instead of glossing over it.

  2. You are so right, Tris has flaws, and she knows that. That makes her real. It also gives her strength, too.

Four and Tris have a good relationship. Real and understanding. Like you pointed out, Four knows she is strong and capable! I'm so happy you pointed that out! When I was reading Insurgent, I kept thinking that about them!

You did amazing describing Tris, she is definitely a wonderful heroine and one that needs some recognition.
