Character Spotlight: Tod Hudson

Note: This post does contain spoilers, so do not read if you have not read the Soul Screamers series.

I am the type of reader that normally falls in love with the first love interest a book introduces and then does not waver. So color me surprised when I first picked up My Soul To Take and was not overly thrilled with Nash and then pretty much fell in love with Tod. Tod was not a love interest initially, but that did not stop me from pegging him as my favorite right from the get-go. From his witty remarks to his determination, to his softer side, Tod is simply very easy to love.

While Tod was always my favorite character of the series, as the series progressed he slowly became one of my all time favorite characters in general. Tod is a reaper, which means he takes souls of those who are ready to die. It is not an easy job, and one that can lead to a severe loss of humanity. However, Tod somehow manages to hold onto his and most of that can be attributed to Kaylee. Tod is not the warmest person around, but when it comes to Kaylee all bets are off. He is almost like a different person with her. It is incredibly sweet to watch this king of sarcasm fall head over heels in love with Kaylee.

Tod and Kaylee’s relationship is one of my favorites. It is the kind of relationship where they make each other stronger. Kaylee can always gauge how Tod is feeling, even when others cannot, and Tod always knows what Kaylee is thinking. Simply put, they complement each other. They are comfortable around each other and have no problem being open with one another. Their relationship is not built off of lies, and honestly, they have more in common than Kaylee and Nash ever did.

Tod is incredibly sweet and incredibly funny and if I had any control he would be in every single scene in the Soul Screamers series. I love his novella, and would love some more from his point of view. I just really like getting in that pretty little head of his. For all these reasons and more, Tod has made his way to the tippy top of my favorites list.

Favorite Tod Quotes:

“You’re not lost, Kaylee. You can’t ever be lost, because I’ll always know where you are. And if I’m not there with you, I’m on my way and nothing standing between us will be standing for very long.” –Before I Wake

“Mr. Cavanaugh, I know this isn’t the future you wanted for Kaylee, and I know I’m not who you wanted for her. And I’m not even going to try to pretend to think I’m good enough – I know I’ve made mistakes, and I’m probably going to make more. But I love her with every single cell in my body. She’s the reason my heart beats – literally. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for her. There’s no one I’d put ahead of her. And I will never, ever leave her, as long as she wants me. Kaylee’s the strongest person I’ve ever met. She can make it through eternity on her own. But I swear on my soul that as long as I’m here, she’ll never have to.” – Before I Wake

“So what you’re really saying is that kissing me is one of those things a girl shouldn’t die without experiencing right?” –If I Die
