"When a local boy is killed by wolves, Grace's small town becomes a place of fear and suspicion. But Grace can't help being fascinated by the pack, and by one yellow-eyed wolf in particular. There's something about him - something almost human. Then she meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away...
A chilling love story that will have you hooked from the very first page."

My Thoughts:

So I don't normally read werewolf books because they just don't do it for me. I much prefer my vampires and angels and aliens. However, I had numerous people tell me how great this book was and that I should really give it a shot because I am bound to love it. Sadly I did not love it. I had an extremely hard time getting into the story and I didn't really care until the last fifty pages of the book.

The characters, while likable, are not really memorable. Yes, Sam is sweet, but so is every other male love interest out there, there wasn't much that set him apart from the rest. Grace is a good lead, but she never really does anything that makes her stand out. Also, it sincerely bothered me that the characters fell in love immediately. There really wasn't any build up to their romance except for the fact that they both save each others lives at some point. This is not something that normally bothers me, but with this book it was just way too instantaneous. I didn't even really know they characters yet, but they still knew that they loved each other.

The story moves along at an agonizingly slow pace. For a majority of the beginning, I wasn't even sure where the plot was going. It seemed for a while that the only problem was going to be the dropping temperature. Also, I just could not buy her parents not noticing they had gained an extra house guest, no matter oblivious they seemed to be. Eventually Sam should have gotten caught. To me it just seemed like a convenient way to progress the relationship without having to deal with parents getting in the way.

While I have a lot of complaints with this book, there were some things I did enjoy. I genuinely liked the last fifty pages of the book. Here the story finally started to progress and things began to happen. The ending was very sweet, even though it was a bit predictable. I also enjoyed the switching perspectives. I always like to get inside different characters heads and be able to see the story from different points of view.

Overall I would describe this book as ehh. Yes that is the best word I could think of. Normally when I read a series, I have to read the next book immediately. Waiting is just not an option, but I do not have that desire with this book. I will read Linger eventually, but it is not on the top of my to read pile. Sadly I have yet to find a werewolf book that I truly enjoy.

  1. I'm sorry you didn't love it. I haven't read it yet and our taste in books are similar, I don't really care for werewolf books. I have had shiver on ebook for at least 6 months and still haven't even tried to read it. I have a feeling I just won't be interested. Have a good day! :)

    1. Yea, I mean it is not the worst book I have ever read, but it is not really memorable either. I will say this though, the series does get progressively better and the writing is very good, but it just is not one of my favorites.
