"A fresh, urban twist on the classic tale of star-crossed lovers.
When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created 'perfect' life is about to unravel before her eyes. She's forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for: her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect.
Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more.
In a passionate story about looking beneath the surface, Simone Elkeles breaks through the stereotypes and barriers that threaten to keep Brittany and Alex apart."

My Thoughts:

After reading Easy, I went in search of more contemporary romances that had a dark edge to them. Perfect Chemistry kept popping up, I saw some really great reviews for it, and had numerous people recommend it to me. So I gave it a go and I am very glad I did. Perfect Chemistry was the perfect mix of romance, drama, heartbreak, and trouble.

The best part of the book is that there is no insta-love. The characters build up their relationship as the book progresses. Their chemistry builds as the story moves along and the characters grow over time. These are two people who seem extraordinarilary different on the outside, but have much more in common then they once realized. Their relationship is not easy and it is definitely not without it's problems, but it is also very deep and very meaningful. These two find exactly what they needed in each other, even though they didn't know they needed it.

This book takes the stereotypes of the perfect cheerleader and the criminal gang member, and shows that things are not always what they seem. Maybe these teens are just trying to fit into the roles assigned to them and are really just looking for a way to be themselves. This book turned out to be much more serious than I anticipated. There was some humor, but most of the book dealt with some terrible and seemingly insurmountable situations.

While I liked Alex, I do have my reservations when it comes to him. I had a hard time getting past the initial bet, because I just felt like any guy who would make that bet in the first place is simply a jerk. However, he did change a lot throughout the course of the novel and did make up for it. It just took me a while to warm up to him because of it.

Overall Perfect Chemistry is a great read, especially for fans of contemporary romance. The story is very sweet and also very moving. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
