"In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in Linger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past . . . and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack. And Isabelle, who already lost her brother to the wolves . . . and is nonetheless drawn to Cole."

My Thoughts:

If you read my review of Shiver, you will know that I wasn't really a big fan. So why did I read Linger? Well, I guess I was curious about what was going to happen to Sam and Grace. I had also heard that Linger was much better than Shiver. So I picked it up and gave it a go. While Linger is definitely not one of the best books I have ever read, it was much better than Shiver

I'll begin with what bothered me. I hate when a happily ever after is ruined and that is exactly what happened here. Shiver left the reader feeling content and satisfied, only to rip it all away in Linger. Everything you thought you knew changes and things that were answered are once again questions. Also, I have never read a book with so many depressed characters. Between Sam being mopey, Cole with his suicidal tendencies, Isabel feeling guilty, and Grace hating her situation; I was getting a bit annoyed. I mean did every character have to be depressed, couldn't one of them lighten the mood and be normal.  On another note, I absolutely loathed Grace's parents. Oh and thats another thing, why are all the parents in this book crazy, oblivious, and simply not at all parental? I understand if one of them has Mommy and Daddy problems, but all of them? To me it seems a very convenient way to explain away all of these teens running around and doing what they please. One set of attentive and truly caring parents would have been nice.

Okay now what I liked. I truly enjoyed the introduction of Cole. In my opinion he is the best character in the books, even with his moroseness. He is witty and sarcastic and always has an answer. He is incredibly smart and talented, but he is also troubled and flawed and looking for a way out.

Once again I enjoyed reading from numerous perspectives and enjoyed the introduction of Isabel's and Cole's perspectives. It was a nice way to keep the story moving and switch things up. This is one of the reasons this book did not drag like the last one. Switching perspectives kept the pace moving.

I will admit that Linger surprised me. I thought I had the answer and knew what was happening, only to be surprised. While I did guess part of the ending, there was a lot that surprised me as well. Clearly the characters have somehow worked their way under my skin, because without even realizing it, the book made me cry. I was not expecting to feel that strongly about these characters.

All in all Linger is an okay read. Like I said its not my favorite, but I did not hate it either. If you liked Shiver then you will love Linger and if you thought Shiver was ehh, well Linger gets much better. I am still not a huge fan of werewolves, but this isn't your normal werewolf book and these aren't your typical werewolves. I know this review kinda contradicts itself at points, but honestly I don't have any clear thoughts on the book either way. If I used a rating system, this book would fall smack in the middle.

  1. I heard great things about this series, too. I gave it a go, and I was disappointed. The story just plays out like a soap opera. Cole is the best part of the series. He is complex, interesting, and fun to read about. Great review!

  2. I haven't read this yet but I know it's a popular series. I'll have to give it a go and see what I'm missing out on. :) I've heard that a lot of people were disappointed by the ending of the series, so I'll have to bear that in mind. Thanks for the review. :)

    1. The ending is kinda disappointing, mostly because I felt it lacked closure. But I know some people loved it, so- to each his own.

I love getting comments and appreciate every single one of them! It always brightens my day =]

This is an award free blog. I truly appreciate the thought but I simply do not have the time. Comments are an award all on their own =]
